Say I want to start my own small local on the side computer repair / building business. What do I need to be certified so that companies warrant things I've touched (think I read in an intel warranty that a certified person had to pop it in). etc...
 
i have a relative who is certified in nothing :D and has been running his own shop for about 8 to 10 years now.

Though A+ and perhaps Vista and XP MCP probably could help build credibility until you get off and running with a good reputation.
