im running an alied 400 what ps in a case with 2 sticks of ram, a sound card, 2 firwire cards(nither used right now) 2 hdds in raid0, 4 fans, and 2 optical drivs. i was running a radeon 9800 no pro till a few minits ago.

after finishing uploading a file on a ftp surver windows said it was dumping the fisical memary. this haponed once befor when i josteled a cord from one of my components. so after trying to get it to rebut it said that my 9800 didnt have its molox conected. i conected it and restarted my comp. and my moniter didnt turn on... i looked at my card and i found that my molex conecter was burned on the 5v. pin, and the plastic at the end of the pin on my 9800 was black and swelled. im using my 9500 pro right now, but i want to know what happoned to this, and why. is it a cheap psu? or my cards falt?

That's hard to determine without trying another card that takes a molex connector, like the 9500 pro, for example. If that's working fine, I would think that it was quite possibly a short out and a fluke. The only way to know for sure is to hook that 9800 up to another power supply.

im running my 9500 pro, but it uses flopy conecter, and my only other comp is a anciant e-machinse, which pprobebly has a 1wht pos, i meen psu ;)

Looks like it was heating up from something, could be dirt that got in there, short, or the psu is faulty.

Does the 9800 still work? Could be a defect in wiring, hell, it could be a lot of things.

dont ow, but i bet now, as i was geting a blank screen nomater whati molex i pluged it into. the pins were cleen, and its been working for 6 months, the psu for about 10. is the 5v of eny segnificence

*and to maintain a shred of dignity, the whirering isnt that messed up, i was just rumaging around in it for a flopy connector

but the psu molex was more burnt then the 9800 molex.... wait, memmy check somthing....

ok. the 9800 is hocked up to a whire which is hocked up to the psu molex. now the psu molex and the female end of the extention/splitter whire is fine(i dont have enything else whocked up to it). could that meen somthing?
