Burning in process, how is it done?

Hey, another question relating to the Mobile 2500+.

How is the "burning in" process done?

I should be receiving a mobile 2500+ from newegg in a few days and I want the best OC out of her.

"burning in" does nothing. There are no moving parts in your CPU. Don't believe the hype.
 
While burn-in for cpus might be a myth I dont agree with your logic. Ram most certainly runs better after the first day or two and it has no moving parts.

If you want to try it, here are how some do it - see what kind of stable clocks you can get at a voltage higher than you will be running. Loop 3dmark or something else. Some dont even oc it at first and just run a high v. They are trying to "break in " the chip in a quicker manner. You can do it however you want. I like to try and use a bit of a OC. You need to use settings that wont freeze up your comp or are to dangerous because you want to loop a bench and find still find it running when you come home. So with your chip I'd do say 1.85v-1.9v and run it at 3200+ speeds or so. It's a concept, there are no real concrete steps.
 
when you piece a completely new system together, there's lots of parts which have never been ran before, and the whole concept of a burn in is to give the whole system an ample amount of work over a length of time to see if all the components are functioning correctly...

so essentially burn in = stability stress testing..

and it could be done with any kind of cpu / memory / video intensive test... like looping 3dmark 2003 @ high resolutions..
 
Well I do know that the Artic Silver 5's website states that it doesn't 'settle' properly until after 200 hours or so of use.

While this isnt the CPU itself, I suppose it could be considered part of the burn-in process.
 
heat causes moleclues to move which would make them settle into the microscopic pores in the metal, so under 100% load for 200 hours should suffice.
 
i believe that "burning in" a chip is actually done by the manufacturer. they bake the chip to lower the possibility of failures in the batch. unfortunately, it also comes out of the oven slower than it goes in.

not to say running a computer for a while at stock before you overclock is a bad idea or anything (to make sure components work and all that)

Yeah, most of the TC sites say that you should break it in with 100% usage for at least 50 hours or so. Thats a good policy.
 
Perhaps in a few cases it would work, but just playing your regular games and other regular usage after a month that should basically have like the same effect, sure some say it works but I haven't noticed anything myself though I wish so..
