Heres the deal. I like having some sort of burner. My problem is that I've gone through about 4 burners in 3 or so years. They just go bad for no reason. All different brands. The most recent one to go was an ASUS DVD burner. I tried flashing the firmware, no dice.
I've been through 2 DVD burners (the ASUS and Lite-On), and 2 regular CD burners (TDK and something else), all have done the same thing. Won't burn anything, and won't read anything (regular CD, software, burned CD's, etc), however the computer still recognizes that it is a burner. They all have started out fine. It seems that if I don't use them for a while, they just quit working. Do burners just go bad after no use for extended periods of time, or is my luck just THAT bad?
