Burner Problems

Has anyone encountered this problem with their CD-Burner. I pretty much leave my computer on 24/7, and whenever I leave it on for a while and decide to burn a cd, the drive either doesn't respond or it just won't burn. The drive is a verbatum Burner that I bought on black friday 2 years ago. Should I just get rid of my burner and get a new one or is there something I can do to fix this problem.

Your just going to have to troubleshoot it. Is it an issue that firnware can fix? Look on their site to find out. Is your PSU powerful enough? Is it something weird with an ASPI layer? Make a list of all possible causes and investigate each one.

Yea, it's either going to be a firmware problem, a mechanical problem with the drive itself, a cable problem, or a problem with the IDE controller (and it's drivers).. it could be a psu problem too, but it almost sounds like the burner is going into some kind of power saving mode after a period of inactivty, and it not waking up correctly from it.. which would explain how restarting clears it up..

considering that a lite-on 52x32x52 drive costs only 34 bucks, it might be a better idea just to replace it with something more speedy..
