i have a pc that was given to me by a friend. My question is my processor is burned out
and has black specs on it so u can tell its been burned.Do u think it could have burned
out my motherboard also?

agreed you wont know til you try.
If it refuses to power up at all without the CPU in (as in no attempt), then I'd say something else is dead too.

Thanks...will try that tomoorow when i have time.

It is usually the motherboard that fails before the processor. I can probably count on two hands all the truly dead processors I've seen out of the thousands of machines I've serviced. In contrast I can not even begin to calculate all the failed motherboards I've seen over the years.

I can see burned black spots on the processor but not on the motherboard.

I booted up the cpu and it turns on without the processor in it but the fan that hooked to the motherboard isnt wotrking.I hope it isnt blown.I hooked the fan to another connector on the board and it still wont turn on. :( Maybe its suppose to not work with the processor out?

It probably won't. By the way powering a motherboard without the CPU in it proves nothing. All that says is the system gets some power and some of the motherboard components are working. This type of testing is completely worthless.

Thanks....so i guess the only way to tell is buy a processor and heatsink and install it.
