is there a way to remove burnin on an LCD screen? I have a 23" apple display and let my sister do homework when i was at work, she left my screen on and now i have a few windows shadow/ghosted on my desktop....any suggestions?

I'm not challenging what happened but it would be good to hear an explanation of how an LCD can possibly burn in. I frankly don't get it. I understand how it happens with a CRT but an LCD in theory should never burn in. Or so it would it seem.

I've heard it happened on an LCD before, but it supposedly went away all on its own.

Hey that's what I heard (read).

LCDs don't burn in at all. What you're seeing is image retention, and it should go away relatively quick.

If you want to get rid of it quicker, just play a couple of fast games and give the pixels a workout. Should clear it right up.

My cell phone's LCD has burn-in problems occasionally that can persist for days, so it's obviously possible.

Burn in and image retention are technically two different things.

Burn in is from the CRT days where an image is burned into the screen. The only way to resolve the problem is to get a new tube or TV as the image is permanently "burned in." Plasmas also run into this problem.

LCD technology will not permanently burn in an image. Like you said, it could be retained for days, but for the most part, just running some fast paced action on the screen should clear it up.

It is called "retained pixel charge". It should go away after a few days. It is not the same as burn in but does look like it.

quickest way to get rid of it is to leave your monitor unplugged for a while - or so i've heard...
