Dear members I want to build a file server with raid 6. Mobo,cpu,ram,and controller are compatible, and the wds are compatible with the controller, the problem is the psu.. how to know the psu is comatible with the mobo??

Case : CHIEFTEC CA-01B-B-SL
Mobo : Intel s3420gplc s1156
Cpu : Intel core i3-560
Ram : Kingston KVR1333D3D8R9S/2GI 3x2gb
Raid Controller : Intel SRCSATAWB for raid 6
Hdd : 2x Intel 320 Series X25-V ssd for OS (i cant find compatible with mobo!!!)
Hdd : 8x Western Digital Wd2002FBYS For Data

Psu?? Corsair or Coolermaster?? or Rpsu?? I'm thinking between 850-1200watt
or something to suggest for me?

That motherboard takes a standard power supply just fine..

For a file server 850-1200 watts is massive, massive overkill - you'll just eat up power by having the system sit in the very low %s (usually the least efficient) in terms of usage. We have a more power hungry server than that and we use a Seasonic X-560 PSU and it doesn't even begin to get stressed... the server at work uses that motherboard and a beefier Xeon CPU and has a 550w PSU and I'd put a smaller one in that if I could.

at the mobo manual says for power supply :A minimum of 350 W is required. Your supply must provide a minimum of 3 A of 5-V
standby current or the board will not boot."

can you suggest me one?? the server will be on power about ~8h per day...

If you're only getting 8 HDs and using on-board graphics, then I think a quality 560-650W unit is more than enough. I'd go with either the SeaSonic X 560W or 650W model. There's no need for a bigger PSU.

Each HD is max 10W each + maybe 200W max for mobo/cpu/ram/raid. Idle should be around ~150W.

Also you want 2 x 2GB / 2 x 4GB memory kit, not 3x2GB.

Was there a reason you're going with older mobo/cpu tech? Do you have some of it laying around?

Might consider a new board/cpu combo (if you don't already own some of the above).

$ 179 - SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCL+-F
$ 206 - Intel Xeon E3-1220
$ 37 - Kingston KVR1333D3E9SK2/4G
($CAD)

i agree with blackdragon, you would probably get much more mileage out of that combo :)

i dont care for the money.. And i think the hardware must have compatibility between cpu,mobo,ram and controller.. otherwise stuck, blue screen, or no boot may happens..
