I ordered:

17" Viewsonic VX710 LCD w/ DVI
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Retail
Epox 8RDA3+ Motherboard
Retail ATI Radeon X800Pro
200GB Western Digital SATA 8mb
Lite-On 812S DVD+/- RW (black)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX
1GB Mushkin DDR PC3200
Logitech THX Z-680 5.1 Speakers
1M Monster Fiber Optic cable
Shielded SATA cable
6' Monster DVI cable.

I chose the Audigy 2 NX because I have one already and I love it. The fact that I can use the remote so easily and the unit is 7.1 channels and under $99 is superb. The computer this is replacing is a:

AMD 2500+ @ 2.2GHz
512MB Kingston PC3200
Epox 8RDA+ Motherboard
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
200GB Wester Digital IDE 8mb
Memorex 52x CDRW
Pioneer Slot DVD
Audigy 2 NX
Samsung 900DF 19" CRT
Logitech THX Z-680

Right now, I can play Far Cry moderately well @ 1024x768 set to "medium" and some settings on "high". I guess I am wondering will this new system be substantially improved? It's kind of silly to have 2 NX and 2 Z-680's, but I have these machines in different rooms and I guess I didn't want to make sacrifices. So what do you all think of this? Will it run with the best? Will it be nothing to write home about? Thanks.

looks good, but what's the fiber optic cable for?

and what SATA cables are you getting?

sounds like a kickass setup. one thing though, tell me if you have any problems with your 8rda3+, i had many with processor temp monitors, and vcore monitors, and i couldnt read them at all.

Fiber optic cable is for the Z-680s to run in digital mode...

I have another system, its a 3200+ on a 8rda3+ and it runs great and MBM reports fine...

I'm getting ready to need a few SATA Cables. What should I look for? Or which should I get?

I will look at my credit card, i forget where i ordered the SATA cables but they are shielded. The ones supplied by Epox were NOT shielded and i had data corruption on my other 3200+ system.

Which monitor?

The samsung 900DF does 1600x1200

The viewsonic 17" LCD is native 1280x1024, no it does not do 1600x1200, but it's dvi. you can't touch 1600x1200 on an lcd until about 20", most 19's are also 1280x1024.

That system should be able to do more than "moderately well" with Far Cry...

*Edit...nevermind, I thought the new system was the one you made that statement for.
