Hi, this is my first time building a 1U server for a rack, built I've built several tower systems. I want to build a conroe 1U system, but I have some questions about space and sizes...

- Will a standard mobo (like the Asus P5W DH) fit in a standard 1U casing?
- Will standard RAM ships (like OCX 2x 1GB platinum) fit?
- Will a 1U heatsink and fan cool a Conroe adequately?
- Is there anything else I need to know before building a custom 1U system?

Thanks for you help.

first, why do you need a 1U system? can you use a 2U case instead? or are you space constrained?

1. yeah, to my knowledge, 1U cases do not have issues with certain mobos. some mobos are built for 1U environments, and tilt the memory slots (so that the ram modules are slanted)
2. I think there might be SOME issues, but I'm not sure on this one
3. It should. Conroe is a much cooler chip than many of the P4's out there currently, and many P4's end up in rackmounts
4. 1U's are very noisy due to the cooling methods. Personally, I like 2u cases better, but to each their own.
