right now im running (my sig)

my brother is running

Athlon XP 2400+ @2.38Ghz (H2O cooled) || Koolance Exos Watercooler (Tt Smart Case Fan 2 modded) || Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev2.0 (chipset H2O cooled) || 1GB Mushkin Lvl. 2 Blue (2-2-2-4) || ASUS Radeon 9800XT || WDC 36.7gb raptor SATA (H2O cooled) || 80gb WDC 7200rpm || 60gb Maxtor 5400rpm || Audigy 2 Platinum || Lite-On 40x12x48 || Lian-Li PC-65 || Antec 550watt TrueControl

and my friend is running

Thermaltake Xaser III Case|Abit NF7-S mobo|AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Barton@2.3GHZ
ATI Radeon 9800XT @ 468/393 watercooled|Audigy 2 ZS|Koolance Exos WC with smartcase 2 fans
PC3200 Corsair 1GB DDR XMS Pro Series Memory 2-3-2-5| Enermax 651W PSU|80GB Western Digital IDE 7200RPM HD& 2X Maxtor 80GB SATA 7200RPM HD's RAID 0

as you can see my computer sucks. i am saving my money right now because i want to make my computer better than theres. one because i want a fast comp and two to piss them off :D

my limit on money is 3500.

i was thinking of a dfi mobo a 3200+ processor 2g ram asus 6800 2 76 gb 10,000rpm harddrive 650 wat power supply. koolance exos water cooling a sound card not sure of the best one out there right now dvd burner/cd burner and a case of corse

what do you think?

where should i make some changes?

If you want to top there systems in gaming then go with AMD 64 3200+ or 3400+ depending on your price point. If you can wait a couple months (since you are talking nvidia 6800 looks you are going to) then wait for socket 939.

Also go for DIY watercooling, will be much better then an exos.

Honestly I'd let them be on top for a few more months and wait for PCI-E BTX boards. Get the Radeon 880XT (PCI-E), nforce3, socket 939, etc... 3500 should be plenty... DDR2 all that good stuff. Spending 3500 now 'I think' would be laffable, because 2004 will bring more major hardware upgrades then 2000-2003 combined!

Upgrading now would be like buy a skateboard when flying cars are just around the corner! hehe..

gl.

i wanna try asus 6800 first. i hear the core is 600mhz stock i can over clock that a lot. i like:D

actaully the core is 400mhz stock:D

do you have a smaller penis? thats right, who cares?

honestly, i used to be in the hardware wars with my friends. i used to be on the bottom. now i have the fastest computer in my town. and you knwo what? now i dont give a shit. im helping my friends with upgrades thatll kick the shit out of my computer. i tell my friends how they can make theirs better. and at the end of the day, i know, i have a bigger penis, so who needs a faster computer?

Maybe cut down to a gig of ram? Id also hold off till all the new goodies like new cards and pci-e is out before deciding on parts to throw in. Good luck though!

im just saying, its not hugely important. if your PC is serving your needs perfectly, why bother?

if you do want to upgrade, however, i say wait a little. new vid cards coming out = older cards much cheaper. new procs do come out = older procs drop in price. go A64, gig of ram, whichever new card is better in regards to price/performance (although i havent seen the new ATi I'm still partial to them), a raptor system drive and like 250 gig EIDE storage, DVD burner, and for the love of god DONT get soundblaster, get a turtle beach if you insist on having a sound card instead of the perfectly fine onboard (this is speaking for soundstorm, which the new A64 nforce boards have I assume)

and dont waste your money on a koolance. if you want real WC, save money and buy the parts. otherwise save even MORE money and get the best air cooler out

a) You don't need a 650 watt power supply. At all.
b) May god help you if you were planning on spending $20 for that 650 watt power supply.

I've got 4 hard drives, 2 optical drives and a 9700 Pro on my 550 watt Antec, and even then, it's nowhere near being stressed. Get a nice Enermax or Antec power supply, and for the love of God not more than 480 watts.

yes but with the water cooler you need more power. plus im just going to get it just to make sure everything is getting the right amount of power. plus its just about 10 dollars more than the 550 true control antec

what brand is it? the ONLY good brands I can think of that make one that huge are Antec and PCP&C and those are VERY expensive.

how does WC need a big psu, anyway?

But if youre going for a geForce 6800, then no less either ;)

Jesus christ you are willing to spend $3500 just so you can have a better computer than your friend? How about you pay me $2000 and I will come beat up your friend and then you can use the $1500 to get your computer the way you want it. Why would you need more power for watercooling? Most of the time the pump runs off 120VAC, so where does the extra power requirement come from? If you are just trying to beat your friend then go buy the most expensive components you can find. Otherwise you should actually consider what you are going to be doing with the computer instead of just throwing money at it.

well i wanna make it better than theres i duno why but i also want it very good because im a heavy gamer and cant play a lot of games on my system such as far cry.

ernermax makes a 650

I swear, 3500 US is too much for one computer, Try making a 1500 US (STILL LOADS, could get a better comp then your friends)
and save the 2000 for later when the major hardware changes come.. Ive built a computer from 1400 CANADIAN that gets a 5.5k 2k3 mark, Its how wise you are with the parts, not how much you spend.

Definitely true what these guys are saying. e-Penis contests are pointless, especially when that 2 thousand dollar difference won't mean jack half a year from now when all sorts of new hardware is out. Build a balanced high-end computer, not some overpriced and overpowered money-burner.

I saw that core oced to 1.1ghz actually, I think it was [H] that did it

ya i think i saw that same thread. i think it was 1.3 though. they where also saying that the core could be oced over 700 :D not sure if its true or not but hell ya

yea I was gunna get a video card this month, likey the 9800 Pro then I saw the new cards come out July (more so after Asus, MSI and other companies make their flavors) and that my birth-month so Ill have money for a good one like that

If ya got the money to blow, go for it, hell, it'll make you happy for a few minutes, right? And what good is money if it can't make you happy?

how did you get 917 posts here and not like know everything about this stuff...

how i got 917 posts is that i am good at modding cases. just about 85% of my posts are in cool cases. the others in video cards and a little in here. some one in here has 1231 posts and thereas dumb as a cow. doesnt matter on the posts. that doesnt mean that i know everything. im just knowlageable in some areas.

I can't decide which company to buy the 6800u from.... Although after having my current vid card made by asus, i don't think i will get the asus 6800 since I, as well as others, have had terrible o/c's with them. Unless otherwise stated in reviews that it performs quite well, I think I'm going to stay away from that one.

If I get a 6800 id definatley wait to see BFG Tech's offering, they make great overclocking cards.

It's called spam. Go into Cool Cases and look at the right column for most recent post. He went down the list of threads and posted one-line, sometimes one-word responses in every single thread. That's how people increase post count without gaining knowledge.

Jesus fucking shit! I hate that kind of fucking bullshit. He even posted 'lol' to one thread. That's all! I bet he was feeling inferior to his friends again so he did that to show how awesome he is by posting a reply to all the threads on the page. Nice contribution there, dj. We all appreciate your input. You are a valuable asset to the forum.
