Building System

You're a gamer, right? 1GB of good RAM will be much better than 1GB of great RAM.

As for inefficient hard drive cooling, you could get an SLK3700 instead. And not get the premium power supply (it's overkill) unless the stock one (a nice 350W SmartPower unit) isn't enough. :) And get an extra 120mm fan, like this one for a front intake.

will the antec sonata be ineffecient for HDD cooling? Some reviews say it has really good cooling, other say it lacks good HDD cooling.

Well, there are worse cases, but not a whole lot. The lack of good front/intake ventilation means that hard drives will tend to run warmer in a Sonata than in other, better-ventilated cases.

Case in point: SLK3700. ;) It also uses 120mm fans, and is structurally very similar.

ok, so I'll just get the P160 with truepower 430. and...I heard someone saying that there Radeon 9800 pro was performing like a geforce 3 due to his hardware...which was only a little worse then mine. Do you think this is true?

Not normally. A couple of specific game engines just DON'T LIKE ATi hardware (it's really bizarre, by the way), like Neverwinter Nights. Other than that, though, a 9800 will pwn in general.

ok cool, so only in some games that don't like ATI hardware. What was the story with that other guy who said it was performing like a GF3 with his hardware? Anyways, I decided to get 1GIG of mushkin level one ram instead of the corsair value.

I think thats about it, my list looks good...eh?

EDIT: I need a damn good 19" CRT monitor. What would you recommend. I hear the 930SB is nice.

Thanks man,
Eli

I like the Viewsonic P95f series, myself. If you're going to get a big monitor, may as well get a good one. :)

I saw that monitor and it looked pretty awesome. I saw the specs and it can run 1600x1200@87Hz. I didn't like the looks that much, but I could learn to deal with it. I am looking for a solid "white" monitor that is reasonable priced. Would you say the NEC FE991SB fits that need? its only like $200.

Thanks,
Eli

The P95 has a nice industrial look, IMO. But yeah, if you want a nice inexpensive 19" aperture-grille monitor, the 991's pretty popular.

your right, it does look pretty good. I would go for the P95F, but I hear it has blurry text.

I am actually begining to like the looks of the viewsonic monitors. I can get the P95F+ for $260 shipped...is that a good deal? I dont need ultra high resolutions for games, so I thought I could go with something cheaper. The G90F looks good in that regard. its a shadow mask, so is it going to be a lot worse then the G95f+?? I could spend the extra cash on the P95F, but if I can get something close to as good for less money, it would be good.

After a lot of research, here is my final list.
