i wanna spend around 1000

i would like to overclock it and will be adding a watercooling system

i would like around 200 gigs (store files and stuff + games are getting bigger)

video card - bfg 6800gt ?

memory - 512 pc3200 corsair ?

it will be used as a gaming / music computer

what i have so far:

case - been purchased
ps.- purchased
cdrw/dvdrom - purchased

i prefer an amd system but would not mind going with a p4

amd 64 or xp either would be fine

just really need to know what mobo and processor to go with really dont know much about the amd 64 line

I dunno much about the 64 line myself, but I do know you definately want 1gig of ram.

First let's start with your PSU. What is the wattage and 3, 5, and 12v rails? Your gonna need at least 20a on the 12v rail. 30a is preferred. The old 300 watter on a P3 aint gonna cut it. 400 wat or greater. Just keep in mind it's not a matter having hugh wattage the power actually has to be partitioned correctly.

Second moberboard. There are 2 sockets for A64: 754 and 939 sockets. For a $1000 machine I would go with 754 socket. Given that be sure to go with a motherboard that has a nvidia nforce3-250 or 250gb chipset. EPOX, Chaintech, MSI, Gigabyte all have this chipset. I just ordered the Chaintech VNF-250 for $88 on newegg.

Third, if youre interested in wcing plus ocing, just get the A64 3000+. Most guys are getting 400Mhz+ oc with that. A $175 processor overclocked to perform like a $500 processor is just cool.

Forth, I cant really comment on memory much. I'm using Cosair Value pack 512x2. 2.5 latency. With mmy current board lacking an AGPlock I cant go more than a 200Mhz oc. So I haven't had the change to really test the memory or anything. Video card I just went with a 9600 Pro. Just do what ever you want wit h video.

I built my watter cooling setup my self. I only bought the Maze waterblock and the Hydor L30 pump online. Everythig nesle Iscrounged for parts around town at car shops, Home Depot, and Lowes.

I'm not 100% sold on the huge PSU thing. My Antec True380 has only 18A on the 12V, and it powers my overclocked P4, 3 hard drives, 2 optical drives, floppy, 9700 pro, and two case fans without a problem

thanks for the info ill prob go with
amd 64 system
480-550 antec powersupply
512 pc3200 ram
128 mb 256 bit 9800 pro
