Hello all. Let me apologize if there is a thread already about trying to find supplies on the internet for case modding but I think my question goes a little further. Well, I have been wanting to do this for years but right now I am in the process of adding up the cost of tools and supplies and just seeing if it would be worthwhile to just get upgrades for my pc and/or get another case in which i can do a few mods to.
I have designed a case I like (finally, after hours)..and drew it in sketchup (80% completed) just to get a good idea the sizes of aluminum I would need. Well, I am finding a lot of ppl here as well as bit-tech (great site btw) giving suggestions of websites where to purchase and I look at worklogs and such but I never find no one really explaining the reason for different size aluminum sheets, etc. I find http://www.mcmaster.com/ and usplastic.com great sites for ordering the acrylic I need. However, when it comes to aluminum, there is a problem. So here some of my questions...and maybe you can point me to a thread and/or a website or just remind me it is common sense:
I am in Arkansas, and called Lowes and they said they cut 1 size of aluminum 12"x12". Basically, I am trying to find some online alternatives. I need sheets that are like 18"x18", but for some reason, I cannot find such sheets. I would find rectangular sheets such as 12"x24" or 12"x18" but nothing more square of that size. They also run really expensive $50, $79, $130...for one sheet?!?!
I honestly don't know how to deal with the thickness..Once I actually can see if for myself, yes, but I can't just order a "sample" like I can do with acrylic. I have an idea which areas I want the aluminum to be more thicker but just don't know how thick or thin (same for acrylic).
I guess I am trying to get a good idea as to how much it is going to cost to get this aluminum(sheets and bars). I was hoping to get it cheap so that I can purchase tools and accessories for my dremel as that is all I have...as well as a drill (everyone has that, well, most..meh...nv). I look at worklogs and try to get my head around the different sizes of acrylic or aluminum used but those details are hardly mentioned and if so, the reason is often not clearly stated. I know some of you probably get aluminum or your metal supplies for cheap at local places.
Thanks in advanced. I hope I didn't offend anyone as well with this post. I apologize if I did. Have a nice day!
