It's that new system building time again, and this time I thought I'd try something a little new to me and custom wire a PSU. I am planning on getting the Antec Neopower, removing the wires for the modular connections at the plugs that attatch to the power supply, and then attaching new wires, cut to the length they will need to be to reach the various periphials in my system. I really like the idea of these low profile molex connectors, which you can "punch down" into the wires where ever needed. This way I will only have as many molex and sata connectors as I need, and the wires will all be the exact length I need. All wires will of course be sleeved and heatshrinked(word?).

There are examples of this here in the pictures toward the bottom. I'd let performance-pcs do it but I thought it'd be fun to do it myself.

So electrical gurus, thoughts? I have experience with sleeving and wiring/soldering etc. and will obviously make sure to attatch the wires correctly, but I am a little concerned about possible power fluctuations or bad connections resulting in the death of my hardware. Is this bad electrically speaking? I know cat5 jacks use this same punch system so I assume it must work pretty well. Anyone with experience doing this have any hints or suggestions? If there is a guide or how to for this feel free to pass it along, I couldn't find any help searching for relevant terms. Thanks in advance for any help! :)

well done right and you can actually do a better job than stock
done wrong...

for starters you can use gold plated pins, fatter cable and actually solder pins to the wire (though youd still crimp) you can add shielding, and even premold curvature with heatshrink under the sleeving

of course you need to invest in a high quality crimper, and some pin extractors (or make your own)

and the word might be heatshrunk :p
