Hey everyone...I need some help bad. I'm building a new system for my mom...SPECS:

ASUS K8V mobo
Athlon 64 3000+
maxtor 120 Gb HDD
ATI 9600 XT
512 Mb Corsair XMS pc2700

I'm not getting a signal to the monitor. I've checked the connection...it's fine...it just goes black when i turn the system on. Please help me :).

But the system is actually still going thru the boot process? As in, it sounds as if it is working?

If so, have you tried turning on the monitor after a few seconds. So turn the PC on first. Then after it makes that noise where the CPU is working, turn on the monitor.

Also, do you have any other cards installed in your PCI slots?

no other cards are plugged in atm, or anything for that matter...just GPU and ram...all fans turn on...mobo light comes on...but i get no beeps which i think means it not making it to post or something. Couple seconds after I turn it on the screen LED turns orange like when you shut your pc off...the power saving thing and the screen is black.

How about PSU, what brand is it? Is it possible for you to swap PSU with another computer?

remove it outside the case and see if it will boot? it is getting power ... maybe the motherboard is shorting somewhere...

I had a similar problem once... my cpu wasn't seated correctly, check that. You would get beeps if it was the vcard, but no beeps for the cpu.

Agreed, I think you should carefully take out the HSF, reseat the CPU. Make sure that is placed correctly and it is snugged.

Grab your motherboard manual and see if you have set all of the correct jumpers.

I took the cpu out...it looked like it was perfectly seated but i took it out to see if it was cracked or anything...saw no cracks or bent pins or anything...but now I cant put it back in until I get some artic silver.

take the regular thermal stuff off with some rubbing alcohol/q-tips and toss some regular thermal paste on there... your mother wont know the difference...

maybe try plugging the moniter into the computer in your sig. It might have died. :)

And once you get some thermal goo on that bad boy, try resetting the CMOS. Should tell you which jumper to play around with.

I just ran into that problem about 20 minutes ago. Freaking OC'ing and bam, no signal on the monitor. Tried restarting, tried everything, and was a bit happy cuz I thought I fried something (I need a reason for an upgrade) but I set the jumper to reset the CMOS and turned on the computer. Whaddya know, it is working like champ.
