i already have windows 7 64-bit so i dont need a o.s

any advice you can give me on this build would be awesome. This will be my first amd setup.

Thanks

solid build. could be cheaper, but it fits your budget and they're all quality components.

Shiro: i have a ? on that board in your Combo. it sais one slot is 16x and the other is 4x. wont that hurt a crossfire/sli setup? since one will be running at 4x?

what is a good board for an i5 that will run each card at 16x or 8x

With the dual 8x CF P55 boards, you're getting close to the price range of X58 boards; so IMO, it would be a better choice to bump it up to an i7 LGA1366 build if you really want to spend that much money on a mobo. Some advantages of LGA1366 over LGA1156 is better overclocking ability, higher RAM capacity (triple channel memory), and also if you plan on upgrading the CPU at all, you'll have better choices with the 6-core CPUs due out later this year. If none of those things matter to you, then a P55 build is good. I'll leave the benefits of the P55/LGA1156 platform to TheQuestian or someone else. :p

thanks for the tip. i already ordered my 955 build stuff. i was just curious about intel Prices wich seem to be pretty much alot more money.

if it could be cheaper please let me know where. saving money is not a bad thing :)

You could get away with a lower rated PSU. Sticking with Corsair, something like a 550TX should do nicely for the parts you have there.

Agreed. Also, that's a $120 case w/shipping: this antec is half that shipped. You could save money on the mouse, too - there are plenty of quality mice to be had for much less than that (check the for-sale forum here, or, if you're not into used stuff, keep an eye on the hot deals forum: there are always mice deals).

Also, will you be overclocking? If not, you really should be. And if you do, you'll need an aftermarket cooler. Check here for a good list of possibilities.

Edit: here is a very good deal on an antec psu. should work fine - and it's modular.

need some advice here
You've mentioned more than once that you'd like to save money...Sooo, I'll go out on a limb and say that an AMD system is your best bet. I was in the same boat as you and though I tried to wiggle myself enough budget room for an Intel system I just couldn't do it. For gaming you can't beat AMD's bang for buck...you just can't do it. Just check out some benchmarks comparing the X4 955 and I5/I7's...when gaming at 1900x1280 there is hardly any difference in performance, at this res it all comes down to the GPU.

Bottom line, if you can afford Intel, go for it...if not, AMD has got your back.

For a purely gaming system, you would be fine with the i5 750 system, so there's no real need to spend the additional $209 to get the i7 920. Also, 5850 > 4890.

I see a Core i5 750 build + Radeon HD 5850 + ASUS 23.6" 1080P for $1,250.00. You can get Radeon HD 5870 and still be below your budget at $1,350.00

haha hell might be to hot for the core i5 i forgot to add something would this computer last me 3+ years?
