Building a PC that will last a few years. I want this PC to be relatively quiet as possible as well.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Will be using this PC for gaming, video encoding, Programming, watching HD videos connected to a 40 inch 1080p tv.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
Spending whats needed, but I'm trying to keep it under $1000( but this about is flexible)

3) Where do you live?
Southern California( live near a Microcenter and frys)

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
Everything for the tower pretty much. Monitor, mouse, keyboard and Speaker are being reuse.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
[Keyboard: logitech lum
Mouse: Logitech g5 1ver
Monitor: old 21inch 1680x1050
Speakers: z5500
Backup HD: WD Black 640gb
Videocard: Ati 4780 1gb
I have a corsair hx520, but not sure if i should reuse it or get something more powerful.

6) Will you be overclocking?
]Not right away but i plan to after making sure everything is working correctly.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
Will be using a 21 inch monitor and also a 40in HDTV to watch movies.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Building in the next 2 weeks.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
Nothing really specific.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
Window 7 7600 until release. Also putting linux mint aswell.

My list:
CPU: i7 920 - $155 ( from retailedge deal, came with vista ultimate/7 upgrade)
Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD4P - $230AR - Microcenter
OS harddrive: OCZ Vertex 60gb SSD $180AR - Microcenter
CPU heatsink: Dark knight $40 Newegg.com
Ram: OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) $100 Newegg
Case: LIAN LI ARMORSUIT PC-P50 Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $156 Mwave.com

Total cost: $ 861 after rebates.

What do you guys think about this.

I had a question about the PSU, will a HX520 be enough to power this system or should i get like a 700w psu.

Something like:

or

I need some case fans too...what do you guys recommend these days.

If you can, get another SSD for some RAID0 action. I've found a single SSD to be about as fast as Caviar Black, since the small write speeds are terrible. So, I threw two in RAID0 and here are the results:

The 30GB and 60GB models perform similarly, while the 120GB and larger are around 15 - 30% faster.

I was going to get 2 30gb vertex, but they werent in stock at Microcenter or newegg. ill just try one vertex for now. Probably get another 60gb when it becomes cheaper.

I'd personally get a good quality 700watt psu to avoid problems in the future. I have the dark knight hsf and love it as well as the OCZ 6GB 1600MHz. I personally went with the EX58-UD5 and am very happy with it although I heard lots of good things about the UD4P.

I have everything up and running. Pretty happy from my old system. Quad core is alot better when multi tasking from my C2D system, well for me atleast.

I def need to replace the case fans and HSF fan, louder than i expected. Are yate loon still best for silent fans?

Temps are about 42 C idle and 55 C load.

Pictures coming....

YL's are best bang for buck still, yes. At <$5 each, I doubt they'll get replaced any time soon. :p
