1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
I will mainly be gaming with this PC. I want to play games like WoW, SC2, Diablo 3 at max settings with no lag whatsoever. I also want to play various other games (maybe GTA 5 if it comes out for the PC) fully maxed out including lots of other open world games (Farcry, Batman, etc)
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1500 (Ill go only little past this but only if it would really benefit the build..like to $1600 max).
Tax and shipping all included in the price.
I will most likely buy all of the parts from this store. http://www.canadacomputers.com as it is nearby me.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if
Toronto, Ontario.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Case
Power Supply (PSU)
Case Fan(s) - if necessary
Motherboard
Processor (CPU)
CPU Cooler/Heatsink with Fan (HSF) - if necessary
Memory (RAM)
Hard Drive (HDD)
Video/Graphics Card (GPU)
Solid State Drive (SSD)
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Will not be reusing any parts from my old PC (as its almost 5 years old) except maybe the HDD. Its 456gb. Will also probably reuse the optical disk dive.
6) Will you be overclocking?
Probably not.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1680x1050 - i believe its a 21.5" Benq which i still really like. Ive heard that i should upgrade the monitor if im buying this PC? I would buy it a little ways down the road as I want to focus on just the computer.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Next weekend.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
USB 3.0 would be nice. Not sure if I need any of the others probably not though.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
I need to buy an OS.

One of my friends already put together this build for me.
http://i.imgur.com/VDO1ZAb.png - missing the case though.

Some of the parts in your friend's build list are overkill for your present needs. Here are my recommendations:

$215 - Intel Core i5-4570 quad-core processor
$110 - ASRock Z87 Pro3 ATX motherboard (sale price, expires 10/31)
$165 - Corsair Vengeance LP 2x8GB DDR3 1600 RAM kit (sale price, expires 10/7)
$259 - Asus GTX 760 2GB video card (sale price, expires 10/6)
$200 - Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
$60 - Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA 6Gb/s HDD (sale price, expires 10/14)
$16 - LG GH24NS95B SATA DVD burner (sale price, expires 10/6)
$85 - Corsair TX650 V2 650W PSU (sale price, expires 10/14)
$55 - Corsair 200R ATX mid-tower case (sale price, expires 10/14)
$100 - Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit OEM DVD (sale price, expires 10/7)
====
$1265 - Subtotal (in CAD, not including shipping, taxes, other charges, or rebates)

I basically "downgraded" where appropriate (comparing my part choices to your friend's) to save some money. However, you will see a notable level of improvement over your current/old build. I also added in a new hard drive (that is much faster than your old one) and a new optical drive (assuming that your current one is incompatible with your new system -- some are).

Don't consider the GTX 760 a downgrade from the HD 7950. Both cards are overkill for your current resolution, but they each can play all of the latest games pretty well at a 1920x1080 resolution. (If you don't want to upgrade your monitor, then don't.)

I went with the Samsung 840 EVO to give you 10GB more than the Crucial M500 for "free." The 840 EVO also holds a slight performance edge, but either SSD will be notably faster than what you're currently using.

To help you out, I listed which items were on sale (per the Canada Computers website) and when those deals will end. If you really want to save some money, you'll have to buy some of your parts (if not everything) this weekend. (That said, I intentionally used the before-rebate prices. Mail-in rebates aren't the same as instant discounts.)

Thank you very much for the build. I don't think ill be able to buy most of the parts till next weekend unfortunately. My only other concern is upgrading the monitor in the very near future. WIll the GTX 760 be enough. People are urging me to wait for the 290x as it will be better than the titan which is $1000 and how the 290 will only be $650.

We'll have to revisit the build I made next weekend, then, as there will probably be a few price changes we have to factor in.

As for the video card, you need to decide whether or not you really want to upgrade the monitor (and if so, when). My opinion is that you don't need to upgrade if you don't want to. The GTX 760 and the HD 7950 will max out your current games at 1680x1050, but they won't max out today's popular games at 1920x1080. (They will be playable at the latter resolution, unlike most cheaper cards, but you can't use max or ultra graphics settings for good gameplay.)

If you really want a high-end video card, wait and purchase it alongside the new monitor.

Thanks for the advice,

Would you recommend this SSD?

Its 240gb and its on for $170 today only.

Also,
One of my friends is telling me how he is running at 1080p and Crysis 3 only runs at 30fps for him and he has a 780. Im sure thre 760 will run all of the games i listed fully maxed but will it run most of the other popular PC games nowadays maxed as well? A part of me was thinking of going for a socket 2011 build and buying one 760 now and another one in the near future alongside a new monitor.

Was also thinking I could go for some cheaper RAM. There is some im seeing that's $85 on the site. Should I stick with the RAM you recommended?

It's not a bad SDD in terms of reliability, but it also isn't a great SSD in terms of performance either.

Crysis 3 @ 1080P w/ 780 should offer more than 30 fps on average. Something might be wrong with your friends setup. HardOCP was getting over 50 average FPS with only a 680 GTX. A 760 is a good video card for your budget.

Going with a 2011 setup is not recommended on your use case. We would only recommend that on a higher budget and multiple monitors. If you were running triple displays in gaming then 2011 might make more sense as you'll need more than one GPU. Which brings me to the next point; multiple GPUs are only useful with very high resolutions. 1080P isn't considered high anymore.

If it's a 2x8GB kit of DDR3 1333 or 1600 @ 1.5v or less then go for it.

I'd rather recommend the Samsung 840 250GB for the reasons that Skillz stated.

As Skillz noted, something is seriously wrong with your friend's PC if that's the performance he's getting out of a 780, Crysis, and 1080P.

Hey guys,

I've decided im going with an Asus r280x...seeing that its comparable or slightly better than the 770 and much lower in price. The thing is now Im unsure which parts I should be buying to suit this video card. Any suggestions?? With all of the thanksgiving deals this weekend I dont want to be missing out.

Thanks :)

Are you buying a new monitor (with a 1920x1080 or greater resolution) within the next six months?

Ditch the motherboard. You're not overclocking nor have you said anything where it would make sense for you to get that motherboard. If you're not overclocking, there' goes half the reason to go with that Asus motherboard. Go for the AsRock that Tiraides posted.

YOu really don't need 16GB of RAM. HOWEVER, RAM prices have been going up and doesn't appear to be going down. As such, it's a good idea to get as much RAM as possible to avoid paying more for it later on.

The OP lives in Canada. He can't take advantage of those deals.

OTHER PARTS IM BUYING:

HD 7970 3GB - Gigabyte ($299 plus $30 MIR) or Asus ($289 plus $20 MIR)
$215 - Intel Core i5-4570
$85 - Corsair TX650
$170 - Asus Z87-PLUS
$165 - Corsair XMS3 2x8GB DDR3 1600
$200 - Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
$60 - Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD
$55 - Corsair 200R
$18 - LG GH24NS95B DVD burner
$100 - Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit
=====
$1367 - Total (with Gigabyte HD 7970, before VAT)

Stick with my earlier motherboard recommendation, the ASRock Z87 Pro3. You've said nothing to us that would make the Asus Z87-PLUS a necessary purchase.

The Asus HD 7970 is $10 cheaper than the Gigabyte card before factoring in the mail-in rebates. (Again, I don't count MIRs since they're not instant discounts. That tactic makes the total price you pay upon checkout more accurate). Otherwise, either card is a good choice.

Find out if the following RAM is available at your local store. If so, this would be a cheaper alternative to the Corsair XMS3 RAM.

$140 - Patriot Intel Extreme Masters LE 2x8GB DDR3 1600

why not try find some second handed parts on kijiji? also look into getting ivy bridge or sandy bridge parts, they aren't that far from haswell. and a lot cheaper
