Ok, I'm building my second computer and I am building it for two main reasons. One for graphic design, and two for gaming. My main problem is I'm debating if I should go with building an Intel based box considering I will be doing a lot of graphic design. I've been told if one of the main reasons for building a new box based towards graphic design to go with an Intel based processor. Now I've been an AMD man for as long as I can remember so I don't know much about hardware quality etc when it comes to building a Pentium box. I know I want at least a 3.0GHz processor due to the fact I will be doing some work in 3D Studio Max along with some other hardcore 3D based design software. So I was thinking going with the Pentium 4/ 3.0E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, with all the Hyper Threading Technology goodies. As for a motherboard I have no idea what to get, ABIT to me always sounds like the way to go but as I said I don't know much about boards or other hardware when it comes to Pentium based systems so suggestions on a processor, motherboard, memory, as well as a graphic card would be appreciated. My price range is between $600-650. Suggestions are very appreciated. Thanks :)

Graphic design is just fine with AMD Athlon 64's. I found that running 1GB over 512MB improved performance when working with graphic design. I often run Macromedia Fireworks and Dreamweaver simultaniously with little or no let down unless i have a hundred frames when making Animated GIF. I'm sure a 3200+ socket 939 or 754 with 1gig would work just fine. If you are intent on running Intel (or even AMD) I would suggest a 3.2GHz comparable. Northwood would be a little better than Prescott but I dont feel the price difference is justified. By the way, I seem to lean a little more towards Intel here with HyperThreading. Also MSI has some nice mobo's.
