Hey guys, I asked you all to help me spec out a budget computer for my girlfriend awhile back... i saved the wish list and we're going to order it tonight.. if everything is still a good deal. Its been maybe 2 months so maybe there's something new I dont know about that you guys do.. i dont really have time lately to follow everything.. so once again i'm asking for your input, cause you guys know best. this isnt really gonna be used for gaming much, just a nice pc for the price nowadays. this is all coming from newegg.

case:
Raidmax Black Mid-Tower w/350w psu $22.00
this case is sold out, crap. time to find a new one.

motherboard:
ECS K7S5A PRO $45.00
edit: this model is sold out, how about the ECS L7S7A2.. one dollar more.

processor:
Athlon 1800 OEM $51.00
this was listed but if a little more speed is only a few bucks more i'll pick a faster one..

video card:
Gigabyte RADEON 9200SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "GV-R92S128T" -RETAIL $50.99
once

memory:
SimpleTech 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-2700 - OEM $42.00

storage:
Seagate 40GB 7200RPM OEM $60.00
this was a good deal at the time.. i'm guessing it still is unless any of you guys have seen something better..

monitor:
SAMSUNG 753DF-T/T 17" DynaFlat silver/black $115.00
also pretty much decided, she likes the looks and the 25+ reviews on new egg all say GO FOR IT..

cdrw:
Lite-On Black 52X32X52 CD-RW Drive, Model LTR-52327S, OEM $38.00
im sure this is about as good as it gets for cdrw's.. its lite on.. c'mon :) i know there is a dvd combo drive for sale but she doesnt need another dvd player, the computer desk is going to be right next to her entertainment center.. so no biggie.

everything still look good? or is something new/cheaper?

thanks again guys, we both really appreciate it! :)

Check around for some Hot Deals on hard drives. I've seen 120GB drives going for the price of that 40GB the last few days.

yeah.. i mean.. rebates and all.. i have a TON of trouble with rebates.. dont know why. since tomorrow is sunday we'll see about any deals in the morning paper before going through with this.. so i guess we arent going to order it tonight.

everything else look good? :)

btw the reason for getting everything through newegg is they have an extended warranty thats only (EDIT) like $15 for everything in your cart.. extends everything's warranty 1 year past its standard warranty! :)

bad ass if you ask me.. plus total shipping is only like 40.. so it ends up being a bad ass deal.

The extended warranty is only like $20-$30 all togethor for like 3 years? WOW. I thought it was that much per piece of hardware. So they cover everything? I never really pay any attention to it cause what i order usually has at least a 1-3 year warranty on it.

I'm sure you already know this, but you'll need to add on a heat-sink/fan with that CPU since it's OEM...

oops, i read that wrong. it extends the warranty 1 year past the original warranty, which is still pretty good for.. $15!!

"Extend my Standard Warranty on the above qualified items: $15.06"

and yeah, about the HSF, i was just going to stop by frys and grab a vantec aeroflow, i think they're like $15 now :)

Speaking of building your girlfriend a computer. My girlfriend is a total computer wrecker. A picture of her should be stamped on every machine produced with a big slash through it. I have to constantly do something to her machine cause she always screws it up. She can just look at it and it has a fatal error. She's great for EVERYTHING else but she doesn't touch MY computer lol.

Hahah man you need to teach her the ways. My gf isnt into the technical aspects of computers but shit... she knows her way around windows and the internet as well as I do.

She does fine with browseing the Internet and playing MP3's and chatting on AIM and the easy stuff like that. But when it comes to installing something or downloading this and that its all in a forgeign language. She just starts calling everything thingers and she'll tell me about this popup she gets and can't remember what it says or if she gets a virus (she gets them all the damn time no matter what AV i have installed on her machine) she just goes crazy. She'll start trying to fix it and theres where her mistake is at. She has no idea what shes doing and she'll just start deleting things and moving things around. It pisses me the hell off too cause she'll do it and then have no idea what she's done and she'll just come tell me its broke.
