After doing some researching this is what I've come up with for now:

Case: Aspire X-Qpack with 420W PSU

A question:

1) How is the PSU in the Qpack? Will it do a good enough job giving power to my system?

A couple of question that might be in the wrong forum, but I though it would be better to make one post in one place:

1) ValueRAM vs for example Corsair XMS. What kind of difference in performance are we talking about here?
2) I see there are two different versions of AMD 64 X2. 1MB and 2MB L2 cache. There seems to be quiet a bit of price difference, is upgrading to a 2MB version worth it? Dramatically better performance?


Any comments? I am building my first computer from scratch so I'm pretty clueless. The case comes with a fan, does the CPU also have an included fan? I am not going to overclock, will I need any additional fans? Will all the components be compatible (RAM, CPU, Mainboard)?

Will the parts fit in the cabinet? Any help or comments appreciated.
 
Well I'll make some suggestions for ya,

Don't get the q-pack, get the Ultra Micro Fly, (or J-pac at newegg I think). The reason being it's about an inch deeper making it easier to work with and there won't be conflicts with the dvd drives and psu lengths. It also has an additional 80mm intake fan at the front. The PSU BLOWS in the q-pack. If you get the Ultra Microfly w/ a psu it's atleast usable. I suggest you get a Microfly sans powersupply and buy your own like the xClio 450bl at newegg. Microfly isn't at newegg so look at tigerdirect or performance-pcs.

I'd say go with the g.skill ddr2 pc800 ram they have as a kit on new egg that's $2 cheaper than the kingston you're looking at, and it's faster especially for future proofing.

That CPU is very expensive for some reason at newegg. I just ordered a 4200+ for $200 there and it can be had for less. I'd say just save $130 and OC the bugger a little bit.

No real difference between the 1 and 2mb cache models, it's equivilent to about 200mhz.

It's a short circuit and possible system damage waiting to happen. I'm surprised that poor excuse for a company is still in business.

We should just make a sticky at the top that say ASPIRE'S PSUs SUCK. DO NOT USE... EVER.


Anyways, downgrade that proc to a 3800 and get a 7900GT, that way you don't have a huge bottleneck at the graphics card... Thanks for the PSU warnings. I don't need to upgrade my graphics card I think. I don't play games, and was just looking for a decent card that had dual DVI.

The netshop I'm gonna buy my parts from doesn't have Xclion. I don't live in USA so no newegg for me. :) I was looking at a Fortron Source 400W supply. (this one ) Sounds ok?

Hmm. Looking at the prices again. If I need to buy a separate PSU the Lian Li PCV300 will be more or less the same pricerange for me. Is that a better case than theQpack? Should i probably go for that one instead?
 
Get the Micro Fly. It comes with a great PSU...

I think the LL is bigger than the Q-Pack, but it has a much higher build quality. The Micro Fly is between the two in quality. I just don't like the drives being on the side though, it is kinda wierd...

FSP is also a great company. That PSU should work fine.
 
the lian-li is a lot bigger than the qpack. well, size is different for everyone, but go take a look at dworley's picture thread in the sff gallery to see.
