*EDIT* 11/25 So here is what I have just PURCHASED at Compusa/Newegg and 2 items I'm still have yet to order.

Hard Drive: Seagate 7200.10 $74.99 <----- Is this the exact model that is best for me?

Processor chip: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 <---- is this the exact model I should order for my mobo/video card? $308.00

Video card: 8800GTS $479.00 PURCHASED ALREADY

Mother Board: Gigabyte S-Series 995 $144.00 PURCHASED ALREADY

Memory Sticks: OCZ Plat. 1GB (x2) $179.99 PURCHASED ALREADY

Case: CoolMaster $29.99 (2 fans one in front one in back) PURCHASED ALREADY

Power: Corsair HX 620w PURCHASED ALREADY

So my PC is looking good so far, I think. As you can tell I have 5 of the pieces already, just waiting now on the Hard drive and Processor. Hoping to get them by Wednesday or Thursday from Newegg.... very excited. Any other bits of advice? For instance, suggestions on which OS to get?

cpu: conroe e6600 , much cheaper than that amd chip, not to mention faster and cooler

mobo: gigabyte DS3 or asus p5b vanilla

hard drive: meh, forget the raptors. the only thing you need to know about hard drives is seagate 7200.10s barracudas.

ram: why the uber expensive ram? get some gskill ddr2 667/800 instead, and save a few bucks.

video card: with the money you saved from the cpu, hd, and ram, spend another 50$ or so and get an x1900xt or 7900gt, will be a significant step up in performance.

case: thermaltake..... /hokay if you really think that it looks cool :0

did I miss anything? edit: get a nice psu for this thing. enermax libertys seem to be pretty popular these days (500w+)

I actually was thinking of buying that westy 22", but the image quality was extremely subpar compared to the samsung 225bw that it was sitting next to. I think I'll just save up for a 2407....

Thank you much for the reply. Took your advice and now I am working with the Intel Core 2 Duo e6600. As far as the memory goes I was looking at this one, was that the one you were refering to?

man, ddr2 has gotten expensive. I bought a 2g kit of ddr2 800 for 170$. Go with the ddr2 800, its only like 10 bucks more, and will help should you ever want to overclock.

He was probably talkin about these (which have gone up $5 in price since they went out of stock a couple days ago):
$215 - G.SKILL 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ

Yes, they are pretty good for $220, and I wouldn't call them uber expensive:
$220 - OCZ Platinum Rev2 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 OCZ2P8002GK ($250 - $30MIR)

Though, I'd get these instead (better timings, which are useless, but still, why buy higher timings if lower timings are the same price or lower?):
$200 - G.SKILL 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK (on sale)

What's your budget?

make sure you're getting one of the 7200.10 (as opposed to .9, .8 etc) seagates. nice choice on the video card too.

They're different models... the difference is performance. The newest, 7200.10, use perpendicular recording technology, which apparently speeds up performance as well as improves platter density.

Make sure the OCZ Plats are revision 2, for better compatibility.

Power supply.

Corsair HX 620 will be perfect for you.

Edited my original post with some updates on what I have gone out and purchased so far... I really appreciate all the input from everyone its helping a lot, and I am learning a lot also.
