Hello everyone,

This is my first attempt at building my own computer. After days of researching and reading through the forums, I've decided with this build:


MSI "K8T Neo-FIS2R" K8T800 Chipset Mobo

The AMD Athlon 64 3000+

Kingston 512mb PC-3200 ram

And I'll be using the hard drives, cd-rom drives, PSU, graphics card and sound card I currently have. I also have a 256mb Kingston PC-3200 lying around which I would add, so totaling to about 768mb. Will the 350W PSU be enough to supply power to the new Mobo/CPU?

What other additions/changes or upgrades do you guys recommend? Please feel free to flame on my build if it's horrible or badly built, it's how I learn :)
 
Nice setup. I would try getting atleast a 400W NON-genaric PSU. Antec, CoolMax, Vantec, etc all make great PSUs that wont break the bank.
 
i would recomend buying an antec case with at least a 350 watt psu; 3 yr warrenty good stuff
thats if you need a new case too :)
 
I will have to agree with everyone regarding the CPU situation. You can't go wrong with an Antec branded case and PSU. I would stay soo far away from generic ass PSU. There are plenty of Antec cases that is non-expensive over at the Egg. Most of them come with a 350Watt PSU.

That 768MB of Ram sounds fine, and later down the line if you have the need for a 1gb, just throw in another 256 and run it at dual channel.
 
The setup you have up there is great. The only thing that i can think of that you might want to change is the type of ram that you are getting. This is just me but i have always had problems wtih kingston, if you are looking for more quality Corsair, OCZ, Mushkin, and Crucial are the ones you want. But even if you don't change the ram type its still gonna be better than my current piece of crap :p
 
I checked the mobo specs, it doesn't support dual channel ram. Should I look for one that does?
 
unless you wanna wait some more time for the s939 3000 to arrive, i think they forgot that s754 doesnt run dual channel, ive heard performance gain is not that much anyways
 
Hmm, but I also don't want to spend too much money (trying to keep it under $400). I read up that the lower end Athlon 64 mobos don't support dual channeling. If it won't make that much of a difference, I'll go with what I have right now.

around the setup i wann make, but im thinking of saving up more money and wait a bit for december for my xmas bonus to see if i can get a 3500
