I'm trying to keep all of this under 900. I already have the monitor, keyboard and mouse. I'm also looking for a case, can someone recommend me one?

So far it cost around $700 USD
well i be better of with the AMD64 or should I save more and get the Barton
 
save and get the barton.
split the RAM into two sticks. try to gnab the low latency corsair stuff, tons more performance.

do you plan on getting RAID and are you sure you want to have a sata hd ?
 
correct me if i'm wrong, but I think the AMD64 is better then the barton...I have a 2500 XP barton, and it's only 80 bucks when I bought it...unless there's a 64bit version..I don't know, I have not kept up on processors since I bought my 2500 several months ago.

With DVD burning so cheap, opt for a decent DVD burner to go with the CDRW driver your getting.

I would want a larger hard drive too....My 160 gig is almost full, and I just got it like in March or something...but again this is my preference..

Here's what I Think would be cool for the under 900 range. Keep in mind I am somewhat out of the loop when it comes to the latest 64 bit processors and stuff.

yeah a dvd burner would be nice assuming he burns or will burn dvds
 
'better' hmmm... well it has higher performance but isn't 'better'... check its price/performance. and honestly by the time 64 bit computing is mainstream the 754 socketed athlons will be a joke.

youll get tons and I mean tons more performance when you switch that ram to some quality 2-2-2-5t ram like corsair's LL stuff.
 
I don't want to speak poorly of someones financial decision or anything, but I personally think that on a price performance ratio athlon 64's are a joke.

( Don't get me wrong, I have seen how cool the run and that is not a joke by any length of rope )


There really just processors that are marketed to gamers with deep pockets. I think that you would find your money more wisely spent towards your video card and your ram if you went the path of a 2800 barton or so.
 
if i'll get a better price/perfomance going with the 2800+ barton. Can someone recommend a setup? well, i'm current researching on some socket A motherboard. I'll see if i'll go with amd64 or just the 2800+ barton

I got all of this for $574

Is the PSU in the Enermax case any good? Should i chose this over my other AMD64 setup?
 
i m upgrading my intel setup this summer to an amd setup... its a crappy intel mobo and a 2ghz northwood A... takin that out and building a system for my mom who only needs it for internet and email... then i m getting the NF7-S and a 2500 barton which i would say IMHO, that its the best setup you can get for now for the cheapest
