Alright well my brother is in the market for a new computer, and I offered to help him out. Now I was comparing my rig that I could build compared to what he could buy at the store. He will be using this computer for internet, and burning his massive CD collection onto his harddrive, so he can make some MP3 discs. He doesn't want to spend over $650 (not including monitor) Here is what I have:

Mobo: Shuttle "AN35N-Ultra" ~$55

Cpu: AMD Athlon XP 2700+ ~$107

OS: Windows XP Home w/ sp2 ~$94

Ram: Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 OEM ~$78

Videocard: CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 "LA-FX20-H" ~$52

Hard drive: Seagate 160GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive OEM ~$91

CD-RW/DVD-ROM: Lite-On 52X32X52X16 Combo Drive ~$44

Floppy: SONY Beige 1.44MB 3.5Inch Floppy Disk Drive ~$9

Case: MAXTOP Signature Series Type I Mid Tower Case with 350W Power supply ~$38

Hardware total: $568

Monitor: ADVUEU 723A 17" ~$274

Logitech Internet Keyboard & Mouse Bundle ~$17

Total: 859

OR:

-38 -55

Biostar M7NCD-Ultra Socket A Barebone Kit ~$149

623

Total: 914

Any tips? If you would suggest parts to subsitute, or anything I would really appreciate it.

What this guy said... Btw, 2500+ might be more bang-for-the-buck, especially with that motherboard (not a bad overclocker).
