I'm building that computer for a friend of a friend. He was going to pay dell 2000 + tax and shipping for the same thing so my friend told him I would build it for a small price. The guy is giving me $1500 to build the $1330 computer and I have never done Intel before (I couldn't convince him to AMD so I could make even more money :p)

So I just want to make sure there are no hardware problems with this setup. Please don't tell me one motherboard is better than the other or whatever, just let me know if something is known to not work well with something else.
 
ya well i tried to make it the same as his dell configuration which had a 15 inch lcd. i might use that case instead, thanks!

i've been told he doesn't game...the dell computer was going to come with an x300se
 
guys, he doesn't play games. as long as it displays windows its a fine video card for him :p

No problems, per se. Everything will work great together and it should be a fast, stable desktop. I would make 2 recommendations. I realize your friend is not a gamer, but with a pretty quick computer, he might want to be a gamer after he sees what his computer can do. If that ever happens, that 5200 would become a waste of money. So I'd definitely think about another video card for him. As others have said, a 9600 Pro would be fantastic. And there are some really good deals to be had on the 9600 Pro's. In fact, Circuit City had some for $39.99 a little while ago. That would make it even cheaper while providing much more performance. My other recommendation would be a 17 inch lcd instead of the 15 inch. 15 inches is rather small. . .when talking about monitors that is :)
 
Hmm... analog video? Are you sure that's a good idea? Might as well get a 19" CRT instead unless he's concerned about space/size/weight. You can get a fairly nice one for $290.
 
ya i wanted to get him a crt instead also. its hard because im talking through email to my friend, who then talks to his friend about the computer so I cant really do any persuading.

in the end, the guy will be giving me 1500 dollars to build him a computer with, and i think i'm going to ask to talk to him before i order everything just to make sure. i am definetly going to pitch the crt w/ a better video card idea because i think its a waste of a system honestly, but this guy can do what he wants to do....he gets the final say and he is not like any of us
 
If he won't budge on the CRT, maybe he'll budge on the type of flat panel.
Newegg's got one model w/ similar specs to that Samsung that has a DVI interface for $299. I have no idea if Sharp is any good though. Here's the link
You might be able to find other ones elsewhere. Look around.
BTW, where's the OS in that list of stuff?
