and one more thing, do you think 4 80 mm fans could cool a XP mobile Overclocked to like 2500 mhz?

get this instead of that 1.45v mobile... the 1.35volts can run a little faster, or the same speeds at a little less voltage than the one you listed...

also.. make sure that sapphire 9800 isn't the one that is 128 bit instead of 256 bit... there was some contreversy... do a search in the vid card forum...
 
some have had issue with that heatsink not performing up to snuff.
Make sure the motherboard has the 4 install holes around the cpu socket for killer heatsinks and look for a thermalright and add the fan of your choice. Minimum thermalright cpu cooler I recommend is the ALX-800 (replaces the SLK-800, and outperforms it by a very small %) See if you can get bigger ones on sale as thermalright is discountinuing some models ...
Or do what I did - go to the fs/trade forum and get a good heatsink for cheap (got my slk-900a for a mere $20 incl shipping that way)
Now, if you do go with the alx-800 the thermaltake smart fans wont fit due to the clip connecting to the lower screw hole. Older models are fine with the TT smart fans - get the 2nd edition as it has a thermal or knob control included - doesnt sound as loud (48dBa) at full load (75.7 cfm)

Bleh to the RAID0, you don't need it. Get a nice 160GB drive (IDE/SATA, doesn't really matter) instead, and stay away from Hitachi for now; their reputation is still in the toilet.

Instead of the ThermalTake riced-up stuff with all the controllers taking up your front bays, get some better equipment. Antec TruePower 430W is a good way to go on power supply, ThermalRight SLK-something (you pick; I'd actually go with the ALX-800, it's almost as good as the all-copper heatsinks, and significantly cheaper and lighter.) for heatsink. Pick your own fan.

I am not a ThermalTake fan, nor are a lot of the people on this forum.

Anyway, otherwise looks OK.

HvyMtl- thank you, i switched over to the thermalright ALX, but what size fan fits it?

Stilleto- im gonna keep the two 80 gigs w/ raid 0 because its only a couple bucks more,
i changed te psu to the Antec True Blue 480 watt PSU.
 
o yea and why dont you guyz like thermaltake? just wondering, i dont really like them that much either.
 
Well, fine, keep the drives, but drop RAID0. (As in, just have them set up as separate drivers.)

Lots of reasons, too lazy to type up. Among others: OS/Data/Apps partitioning, data loss from drive failure, etc.

Anyway, TT power supplies are OK. But their other stuff is overpriced rice. PSUs, I'd still rather stick with Fortron and Antec.
 
My philosophy about building your first computer is this.


Try to avoid getting things that you don't need to have your machine working immediately.


Because the more parts you have, the more things that can go wrong. And I think the last thing you want to do is build a machine with 4 harddrives, 3 sticks of ram, 4 optical drives, and a lot of other gadgets that might get in the way.


I'm not saying that this is what your doing, just keep in mind that with a PC ( You can always add parts later ).

Get two hard drives if you want, just don't use RAID0.

Do you understand what RAID0 is, how it works, etc.?
 
i kind or understand like half or ur info goes on one drive the other half on the other and that makes it load faster.

i just dont see how that would make it fail really easy, because hard drives dont fail that easy do they?

and i think im going to start with one 80 gig SATA and later maybe add another 80 gig SATA and RAID 0 them once i get more knowledgeable about computers, and if HDD failure is that much of a problem i would back my important files up onto CD's or an External HDD.
 
the ALX-800 from thermal right ( go to thermalright.com for specs on most all their heatsinks)
takes an 80mm cooling fan. NOTE: the clips on the ALX-800 use the lower screw holes on the fan case to hold the fan on. This is different from previous models - and limits you to fans that do not have an enclosed screw hole set (the thermaltake smart fan 2 has the enclosed screw hole)
As for raid, this is the issue with raid 0 - if one drive fails "poof" there goes your data... but I see that as the same as ONE drive - that is possible with one drive too... theoretically raid 0 doubles the speed of the drive while having a small impact on access speed (as the data has to be found on 2 drives instead of 1)
Raid 1 the first drive has all data written to it, the second does too, so if one drive fails - all the data is there (that is the benefit - really good for critical info, but prolly needless in most home computers) the speed hit is again the access (as the info has to be written to both drives at the same time)
Now, the best of both worlds is raid 0+1 which you have two drives doing raid 0 and a backup drive (or two) doing the data backup - not as fast as raid 0, but faster than a single drive and removes the risk of data loss.
Now is raid 0 needed by you? Probably not... would it be a whiz bang bragging right type of thing that you'd put in your signature so that other forum members will drool over your set up...
