Well it has come time for me to upgrade my athlon XP1800 gaming rig at long last, and I have put together a wish list on newegg (of course), and I was hoping (like a zillion other people) to get some opinions on the hardware I am going to get.

Check out the wishlist here
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...?ID=1474915&WishListTitle=Gaming Rig April 05

This machine will be for gaming only, but I would like to be able to overclock it well at some point in the future, so I threw this sutff together, and figured out I have no idea wtf I am talking about

So any suggestions are more than welcome!
Thanks

dont get raptors... IMO they are a waste of money...

change the heatsink to a Thermaltake silentboost K8

change the cpu to a AMD A64 3500+ winchester

everything else is perfect IMO :)

You have an SLI board there so why not go nVidia and perhaps get a second card later on?

ATI cards don't work in SLI. Get a 6800GT, they're both better deals and you can add a second identical 6800GT when the price is down for tremendous performance gains. Or skip the SLI board and get the normal NF4 Ultra-D and save even more cash. Do not get an X850 XT, it's a complete ripoff.

Ditch the gimmicky RAM and get 2 512 MB sticks of Corsair Value Select. "Low Latency" Bullshit RAM does you no good, you'll get an unnoticable 1% performance gain for 200% price.

Raptors are a terrible deal, they are only slightly faster, emit lots of heat and make tons of noise. For price of one 74gb Raptor, you can get almost 400 GB of silent, low-heat Seagate storage at almost exactly the same performance level.

Change the power supply to an Antec True430 or Enermax Noisetaker 420 supply, and grab a 20 to 24 pin adapter. The 550W model is overkill. Major overkill.
