i'm trying to complete my esxi server but i stack with the motherboard and my Ram memory anyway this is my configuration:

Mobo - ????
CPU - Phenom II X4 955 BE
Ram - 2x4Gb (for now next month + 8Gb) - i dont know which brand kingstone,g-skill etc.
HDD - 1x640Gb WD Caviar green + 1x320Gb WD Caviar green

Now i want some advice about the mobo and which brand of memory,on mobo i want to spend 80$.
I will use this server for Server 2008 (AD,DC,DNS,DHCP,TS) + Exchange 2010 MCITP Testing Lab + Trixbox + GNS3.

Thanks

You can run your MCITP lab stuff in virtualpc on a core2 laptop. I have done it.

Lab and mobo aren't really critical questions for your scenerio, just go to newegg and pick them out for 80 dollars.

Just make sure you get a board that has a SB710 or higher chipset so ESXi will recognize your HDDs and format them VMFS. You'll need to set your SATA ports to AHCI in the BIOS for it to work.

The onboard NIC won't work unless you want to hack and slash at the hypervisor (which I wouldn't recommend). You can get a PCI-E dual port Intel Gb NIC on ebay for $45-$50.

you wanna say i can install esxi on EVERY mobo with sb710 ?
and what about the memory, which brand ?

Stay away from gigabyte boards! I have two Gigabyte 880GMA-USB3 boards which would not run esxi even after following the howtos. Eventually got it working but wasn't worth the hassle.

As somebody suggested just get a separate NIC if this is the case.
