OK, my friend wants me to build him a high-end gaming Desktop.. The thing is.. I want to wait for the new motherboards witht he socket 775 and PCI express on them (not necessarily the DDR2, i'm not trippin about that)... but I don't want to have to make him wait for a long time, and I obviously want him to be prepared for future upgrades with the new socket and graphics architecture.. SOoo. when is the blitz of new Intel motherboards and PCI express graphics cards coming? (I mean when can I go onto newegg and buy them..)

First of all, if he wants a high end GAMING machine he wants an athlon 64. They are the undisputed gaming leaders. The socket 939's will also offer a very nice upgrade path, as they should be able to take 90nm a64's too. When all is said and done it will probably be cheaper too.

yep go AMD

newest is still a little bit more cost friendly then the newest intell and gaming wise perform better

ok, but what I want to know is when either AMD or Intel will begin releasing boards with PCI express.....

Intel: already released PCI-Express boards (the ones based on i915 and i925 chipsets). They were recalled just a few days ago though.

AMD: sometime in the second half of 2004 or beginning of 2005
