building comp for editing and some gaming.

my brother is wanting me to build a system for him. he is going to use it for audio editing and video editing for his band. he also will be playing game on it. ive never built a computer for editing and was wondering what i can put together for him with a $1500 price limit. this will include everything like monitor, computer case and everything inside, speakers(most likely 2.1 speakers) and so forth. basically the computer itself will have to be under $1100 because he has to buy a monitor and speakers. any ideas/suggestions would be very appreciated.
 
For starters get these components:

Motherboard - Abit AV8
CPU - AMD Athlon 3500
Memory - 1GB PC3200
Video Card - Geforce 6800GT
 
the 6800GT is out of their price budget. and im not sure if i want to go AMD though. Intel CPU's have more memory bandwidth and i can build a faster system than any athlon non 64bit system. thnx for the input anyways.
