i'm looking for the specifications for the pci backplane so i can design my case in CAD before actually building it.
i got the atx 2.2 specification PDF from http://www.formfactors.org but it doesnt include the spec of where the cards actually sit in the back of a case

can anyone link me to the documentation?
 
i would just measure the dimensions from my old case and make some little estimates for the new one based on pictures. unless u want it exact. then im no help there.

like i said, i want to whip this up in CAD first, so i'm looking for exact measurements

which cad program would be best for this i wonder? i've been playing with AC3D...
 
I second SketchUP.

I use it for designing furniture that I build for myself, but I have been using it for case designs too. It is super easy to use.

Here is one that I was going to make for a plexi mATX case:



and there are lots of sites with stuff that you can download that people have already made. Like this Lian-LI:
 
Sketchup looks pretty cool, But I like to use 3Ds max when designing these sorts of things (just for fun) because I know the program well, and can move around quickly in it.

Still downloading ketchup though. My dads friend makes things out of plexiglass, So I might be able to have him make a case for me. ...

that'd be cool...
