Building case from scratch

I want to build a case from scratch and I have never done it before. I need to know where to get all the stuff that comes with a pre-made case; the power and reset buttons, the front usb ports and so on. Do I have to buy a pre-made case and take out the stuff I need or is there a place I can buy just the stuff I need.
 
You can probably get all that stuff from an online e-tailer.. I have some extra connectors (usb and com) from my mobo. I'm not going to use them.

You can pretty much use anything as an on/off switch. You can purchase LED's at any electronics store. If you drive around enough, you can probably find a case on the side of the road, or check out www.craigslist.org and see if anyone is giving one away in your area.
