Building a shuttle maybe!?

Ok .. I think instead of getting a new laptop, I'll build a shuttle!

Why!?

It's compact
Cost less then a laptop in the performance ratio
Sleek
Clean
Upgradeable!



Ok I want to be able to game and play normal things... OC too if possible but not alot.

Heres what I'm think, I'm new to shuttles so go easy

3700 SD 939
7800GT Evaga 470/1100 for 299 @ newegg.
Ram I'd prefer something over 35000 maybe 4000!?
HDD I'm looking over @ newegg for the Western Digital Caviar SE 320GB It offers plenty of space and would take up little room in the SFF.... Plus I can always make Partitions!

I'd like nforce 4 perferably......

And a cheap CD/DVD drive that can Read/Write maybe a combo drive...dual layer....

Also can I use my windows XP liscenes / CD a baught for one computer/uninstall it and re-liscenes it on the other... since I have a windows 2000 cd laying around for it... ??

Anyone know a good shuttle case and psu...??? that can handle all that?
 
I think you will need some more money than $1k for that system.

If you are more flexible about ur case you can get a aspire x-qpack for $80, microatx mobo for $90 and a good psu for $90-100. That would be about $100 cheaper than the SN25P which is around $380 right now.

1GB (2x 512mb) pc 3200 Crucial ballistix or OCZ performance for $120
Western Digital Caviar SE 320GB $131
16x DL DVD Burner $40

Comes up to around $1200 or so and if you want the shuttle it will be ~$100 more
 
Suggestion - Seagate Barracuda over the WD driver.

One of the advantages of an SFF system is that, if you make the effort to, you can make them VERY SILENT.

And the Barracuda plays into that well - quietest traditional hard drives on the market (that I've found, anyway).
