I'm looking for some advice on a build for a gaming rig that's SFF. I see a lot of people suggesting the Qpack - What makes it so good? It's pretty ugly looking, in my oppinion :eek:

For budget, I'd like to not go over 2k. I'm a gamer/graphics designer, so I'm going to need the RAM. I don't mind if it's AMD or Intel, whatever the bang for the buck is. So far from reading around, people seem to go with AMD right now. Taking all of this into account, what would be a good build for me?
 
I'm using SilverStone LC11M, its more HTPC than SFF. http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-lc11m.htm
It has cool remote control & LCD display. But the PSU is propietary and 300W only. So I can't use high powered VGA card like 7800 or x1800.

There are lots of SFF cases out there. Qpack is popular because its the smallest you can get with mATX motherboard and standard PSUs. Try http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...rice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=7&Submit=Property

2k is aplenty. I'm a graphic designer as well, so if I get another 2k I will go with this:
- Case: http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-sg01.htm with good 400W-450W PSU
- AMD Opteron 170 dual CPU skt939
- Cpu cooler maybe a Zalman 7000B-CU or Silverstone's own NT03
- Foxconn 6150K8MA-8KRS Skt939 GeForce6150 MATX board
- eVGA 7800GTX 256
- 2x1GB OCZ Platinum EB PC4000 DDR500
- 2x250GB WDC 2500KS SATAII 16mb cache

Not sure monitor must be included into the 2k budget, so I didnt put in one. Get a 6800GS and Opteron 146 if you want to add monitor.
 
Don't get Silverstone NT03 with a Foxconn 6150 motherboard. One of the capacitor is blocking the way. F me.

I put together the rig in my sig for around $850 for comparison, though I used a spare HD and optical drive I had lying around.
 
Does Shuttle sn26-p1 take standard PSU? The stock 350W wouldn't be enough for 2x7800gt, i think.

From what I've read, the stock psu is very good and the system was made for SLI so it should support 2x7800gt's without problem. There is no disclaimer from shuttle on not being able to run 2 top line vid cards in it, and for $579 there's no way they'd sell them if they couldn't.
 
I used the q-pack, but for 1 main reason, it has 2(two) 5.25" external drive bays, so if you want an SFF system and want or need to have more than one 5.25" bay, the only thing available is the qpack. as far as i know
 
the silverstone sg01 would be a viable option; that also has 2 external 5.25" bays, but no 3.5" bay i think. so that may or may not matter to you. some people like the looks of the sg01 a lot better than the qpack, though; it just looks sturdier and made of higher quality material. it's pricey, though; costs like $200 or something like that, and no psu.
