So, im kinda torn between the AMD 64 or an 3.2

My setup would go as follows:

AMD 64 System
----------------------
3200+
512 Corsair 3200 XMS
MSI fser
9800 Pro

Intel System
----------------------
3.2
512 Corsair 3200 XMS
Abit IC7-G
9800 Pro

I have looked at the benchmarks for the 2 and it seems like the 3.2 is quit a bit faster, but in the long run, doyou think the AMD 64 will be any better then the 3.2? TIA

Chris

shit LOL my bad, but which system would you choose, they are both similar price wise, thanks

Chris

my personal opinion on upgrading is to wait and see what happens with the whole A64 deal
so far, we dont know what it is capable of 100%

get 3200+ because im a mindless amd fanboy and i say so.

but for real, its a better proc with more room for the future.

It really depends on what you are going to use this machine for. Most benchmarks have the P4 leading in buisness class apps and most rendering and encoding. However, the 64 is only slightly slower in those. For gamming, 64 all the way. (If you have the grip, go for the Athlon 64 FX. (wish I could)
I am about to upgrade my current system (AMD 1800+) to a 64 3200+ as well. http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=727109

The bottom line , IMHO, is there isn't realy that much of a difference between the two. P4 faster here, AMD faster there. Either setup will be a smoking machine. Myself I am going with the AMD64.

Let us know hwat you decide and how it runs after you get it together.

One last note, I recommend getting a SATA drive as well.

If your a person who upgrades often, go with the P4. It will be quite sometime before you "need" a 64 bit processor. AMD also is changing sockets soon, so you might find that the board you buy now, may suck compared to a new socketed board in a little while. However, if your someone who buys a new system and leaves it unchanged for 2 years, go with the A64.

Yea, this will be an upgrade from my 2.4c 1gig 2700ddr 9800 pro system, that is 3 montsh old, so I really like to upgrade, will I notice any difference form 1gig ram wiht my new system instead of 512?? Thanks

If your a gamer, you will. Disabling the pagefile is nice. If your just a web surfer, content creator, probably not.

yea, I'd also say go with a pentium system... just because I still don't see a replacement for pure clock cycles for some things. AMD is good for some stuff but Intel is good for more stuff :).

anyway to disable the page file go control panel>system>advanced tab>under performance, click settings> advanced tab> then on the bottom there is a change button, click that and then you have all the page file settings.

I would choose Pentium because it has hyperthreading and will benefit you. :) But there wont be any upgradability from that motherboard.

There wouldn't really be any upgrading from the AMD path either. Both companies are moving to new sockets.

I wonder when this new socket rollout is going to be complete on both platforms, and when does DDR2 and PCI Express become generally available?

</itchin' to ditch my 1900+>

Just upgraded myself. <stats in sig> Very happy with the new config. Now I just need to do some gaming testing on it. :)
