Hi guys,
First time building an AMD rig. This is for my friend who wants a new system w/out blowing a hole in his pocket. He's mainly going to be playing BF2, Doom 3, GRAW and a bunch of other FPS's. Here is what we came up with:
----any feedback would be greatly appreciated! ~thanks
CPU: AMD 3700+
MOBO: Asus A8N5X
RAM: OCZ Premium 2x512mb timings @ 2.5-3-3-7
VDO: eVga 7900 GTO
DVD: Sony 16x DVD-Rom
FLOPPY: Samsung
PSU: Thermaltake 430w
CASE: Super Lan Boy
HDD: Reusing his existing SATA one
Total Build Price: ~$750 after tax and shipping charges

and btw, why the hell is ram so expensive now? for the same ram, it was like 20% cheaper last year?! wtf!

Personally I would shell out the extra 50 bucks and get him a 3800+ or the 4200+ is only a couple bucks more and then he will have the same 2.2 hes really gonna regret not having dual core within a year I suspect. I know Im on single core and am starting to feel the crunch.

And I personally would choose a diffent PSU but thats just me.

BF2 likes 2gb of ram... get a 2x1gb kit...

ram prices went up because more people are buying DDR2 and less was produced this Q so supply goes down and demand goes up= higher prices....
