About to build a new server that will mainly be used for backup for a few pcs. Will serve as a fileserver and media streamer for the LAN and some sort of web server to access files from my mobile when away from home(may use WHS for this function). This machine will be a Linux host for virtual guests for each of the jobs I have in mind.
I would like to know if anyone have experience with such a server on a dual-core chip. Will a quad-core chip be better?, would like to have a really low power consuming box and I know quads sip a bit more juice even at idle.
Up 365 a year with maybe 3 virtual machines on top of a Linux distro(thinking Mint) being accessed via RDP.
I would like some thoughts and input on such a build.
Thanks all.
