I plan to do it in about 3, 5 weeks . . . depends on when I get enough money.
I already have a case, which is a Gigabyte Poseidon
(The abbreviated sections to the parts are the model numbers; makes it easier to find on NewEgg and the like)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
GPU: eVGA GeForce 8800GTX (768-P2-N831-AR)
SC: Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro (70SB046A00000)
Ram: 2x1gb Corsair XMS2 Dominator DDR2 800 (TWIN2X2048-6400C4D)
MB: eVGA 680i SLi (122-CK-NF68-AR)
PSU: Cooler Master Real Power Pro 850W (RS-850-EMBA)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 7200rpm 16mb 3gb/s SATA (WD3200KS)
CD/DVD: 2x NEC 18x DVD+/-RW 8x DVD+/- DL etc (7170A-0S)
Total of about $2000.
Basically, only thing I am unsure about is the ram and the video card. Should I downgrade because of the better DX10 coming out later on . . . since the current ones are huge and hot (and so are the soon to come out ones, excluding die updates of the 8800 series).
I am considering getting the 1950XTX; $200 less, and which is not a big performance drop from 8800GTX.
Plus ATi, or, rather, AMD drivers are supposed to be a lot better; from what my friend told me, the newer nVidia drivers still make his windows media player (10 or whatever the newest version is) unusable. I am still using an old nVidia driver for my video card because of that happening to me, but that was quite a while ago, when they first introduced that new interface . . . I do not know if it still does from my own experience.
If I go the ATi way, I have no idea which motherboard I would get, so suggestions there would help if I should.
Oh, and I plan to get a Westinghouse LVM-37w3, so the resolution of gaming will not be that high, just 1920x1080. If I do not get that, I will get a 24" monitor, which would be around the same resolution, so.
And this is my current PC, which blows harcore and I built about 4 years ago (was on a $500 budget):
AMD AthlonXP 2200+
eVGA GeForce FX 5200
2x Kingston 256MB PC2700
ASUS A7N8X-X
a 52x CD-RW
60gb HDD
And so on.
