Building a Muliple Drive External Enclosure

Basically, what I'm looking to build is an 8+ drive enclosure...
This: http://www.pc-pitstop.com/sas_cables_enclosures/sas8bay.asp

But as you can see it's pretty pricey and I don't need hot-swap (It's nice to have of course).

What I'm thinking is buying a small case with enough slots like the Lian Li PC-Q08 and shove in some drives and a power supply. I know that case only has room for 7 drives if I use the 5.25" bay, but since I won't be needing a motherboard, I'm sure I can squeeze an eighth in somewhere.

I currently have a LSI 9260-8i in my desktop which I can convert to external SFF-8088 ports using one of these.

At the moment I have 2 concerns:
1) Can I just use another one of those SFF-8087/SFF-8088 adapters on the enclosure or is the adapter directional (i.e. SFF-8087 to SFF-8088 only and not vice versa)?
2) Powering the drives: As I have yet to see any powersupply that is SATA/Molex only (admittedly, I have not looked very hard on this point), I'm thinking of using a standard power supply with one of those power supply tester/jumper things attached. Any problems with doing this?

Thanks for any input you might have.
