Hey guys im trying to build a gaming system for under $1000 and i want a intel pentium 4 extreme edition cpu/mobo combo with case min of 3GHz but i can't find any anywhere can you guys refer me to a site where i can find this? What i need

1. the barebones system ( case/p4EE/mobo/fans/powersupply )
2. geforce fx 6800 gt 256mb AGP
3. audigy2 zs
4. min of 80gig 7200rpm hardrive
5. 1gig xmx corsair dual channel ram (don't know what the ram would be on a p4ee/mobo setup though....
6. dvd/cdrw drive
7 windows xp home

How much do you think all of this would cost me? Do you suggest i keep my current system and just upgrade to the videocard to "geforce 6800 gt " ? or get a new mobo/cpu?

I play farcry, doom 3, and will play half-life 2 and i played farcry and doom3 on this system in doom i can play it in ultra high settings at 1024x768/32 but with no AA and no AF and i want to turn it up and i just can't on this system....would i be better off to get a new cpu/mobo or just upgrade the videocard? will going from the HT p4 to a EE p4 make a big difference?
 
Dude... don't do that... go with something like this:
AMD 3500+ $340
Abit AV8 $110 <- 5.1 sound, no need for soundcard really.
Mushkin Green 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 $170
Case + PSU $100
GeForce 6800 $400
+ $30 misc stuff e.g. CPU fan, whatnot

=$1200 and a lot better what you proposed, plus some overclockability
that $200 difference will go a long way.

If you wanna upgrade, just get a better vid card and a watercooling setup, OC your CPU and vid card, and you're set for under $500.

Indeed, find them, and shoot them. Shotguns do nice, but automatics can truly put the message accross.
A64 all the way... for gaming that is.
 
Comparing what you currently have, to what you suggest, or to an A64 system, forget about it. It would be a waste of your money.

Just get a decent Epox or Abit motherboard, then OC your 2.8 cpu to 3.4 or so, and slap in a 6800GT. Maybe add an extra hard drive if you need the space.
 
thanks guys....well i saw some gaming benchmarks for the EE and it was close to A64 i guess ill just wait for a total upgrade system in about a year or 2 then ill upgrade...but for now i guess ill just go for the 6800gt ..... next system will be A64 based system after doing a little research on it over the EE...what do you guys think about A64 vs Prescott?
 
My rig is detailed in my signature, if you were to eliminate some of the excess HDD's, and maybe the sound card (the MOBO already has decent sound onboard) you could do it for under $1000.
