Ok, I'm building a computer and need a little advice on what to do mobo and cpu-wise. This is basically what I've come up with that I want:

If I go with the Epox board and Athlon XP 3000+, I save $92, but do you think it's worth it to spend that extra money to get the Asus K8V Deluxe and the Athlon 64 3000+? I've heard mixed responses to this from different people, but what do you think I should get? This computer is going to be pretty cheap either way, only about $650 for everything (including case) if I go for the Athlon 64, because I already have the monitor and video card, so I'm leaning toward the Athlon 64.
 
its probably not gonna make a difference but its only 92 bucks and i'm sure the board is better. so go with the 64
 
Get the AMD Athlon64 3000+. Excellent piece of hardware. Remember you can also get the Athlon64 2800+, which should still be faster than the 3000+ Barton.
 
Oh let me tell you something, some of these newer boards sport integrated sound cards that sound just as good as the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 or better. I have an 875 chipset with CH5 sound I think and it sounds just as good as my Sound Blaster Live card so I don't bother to use it on this system. Save that money and invest it elsewhere on your system.
 
You probably want to look at faster RAM, PC2700 is the minimum for a new system. And stick with the ASUS motherboard rather than EPOX.
 
Get one of the nForce2 boards with MCP-T southbridge and the nVidia APU for sound. They're better deals than getting one without and then paying for an out-of-date, obsolete sound card.

DO NOT GET AN SBLIVE! IF YOU'RE USING WINDOWS 2000 OR XP!
