Building a c2d system....ideas?

So i havent been an Intel man since i sold my venerable celly 300a@504 back in the day.... Im looking to throw together an intel system that will last a few generations, kindof like the athlon 2500+@3500+ im currently retiring. Here is what i have planned out....and i would much appreciate any criticisms or advices you might be able to provide me!

Asus P5W-DH Deluxe
C2Duo 6600
Saphire Radeon x1950xtx 512mb
G.Skill 2GB pc2 6400 4-4-4-12 timing
raptor 150 sata
250 gig sata backup storage drive
lite-on sata burner

This is pretty much it, going to be housed in a Lian-Li PC70 and ran on an Enermax 550w p/s... Can anyone make any recommendations other than what i have? Thanks in advnace!
 
IDK what kind of $ you are spending on the 1959xtx but I would suggest a 8800gts 640mb version. (especially if you want this pc to last a while)
 
I am leaning towards ATI cards mostly, havent read into the Nvidia new gen stuff.... What would be the biggest advantage with the 8800 gts? BTW spending $350 on the 1950xtx
 
do you need it urgently? i heard theres a pricecut coming up next month....

thats when i'll be doing a little upgrading. hopefully.
 
Well you just said that the pc will need to last and I figure getting a Dx10 GPU would make it much more future proof 1-2 yrs down the road when Dx10 games are out.
 
If 1950xtx doesn't support DX10 - which i think it dont, than Id definatelly go for 8800GTS640 as was suggested.
 
The current ATI cards will not support DX10......next refresh for ATI, I belivev will be end Q2, but surely expensive.......
the 8800 recommendation is solid.
So.......just some thoughts.......consider SLI. The ASUS P5N32-E Plus would be a good board......and a bit more in the PSU to drive the new gen graphics cards.....they like power.
 
Id love to have SLI....right now i cant afford it :( The 8800 640 kicks the price up another $100 or so... That kinda hurts the budget, im 'trying' to keep it under $1500 for the build, and im hovering around $1450 right now just going through newegg costs :(

Get an Evga 8800GTS 320MB Superclock then. 309$ @ newegg

It really wouldn't make much sense to buy an ATI card right now.
