Okay, so I've been planning to do this for a little while now, but have been very busy so I only started setting this up in the past week or so.

Basically, I'm building 7 computers - some re-builds, some new builds, and I'm re-doing my main rig with a complete case mod I will call "White Phoenix" (in iterations, until it's perfect).

For the builds, this what I what I've done (pics below):
  1. I've built a test-bench, made out of an acrylic case I bought, in a very simple DYI way. It's simple but beautiful - my motiff.
  2. I've set up my 20" softbox with a boom-arm and four 135w fluorescent bulbs, equalling 2400 watts of 5500k "Photography" light.
  3. I've built a 75" x 24", 1.1"-thick table, painted it white and glued a layer of extra-smooth plastic white wallpaper onto it so everything can glide smoothly.
  4. On a smaller table, I have positioned four things:
    - A pair of Microsoft Wireless keyboard and mouse.
    - A pair of Polk Audio Monitor 30 speakers.
    - A pair of drawer containers with every type of screw I will need.
    - A Samsung 37" 1080p TV (2011 model).
  5. I've organized the dozens of cables I have into bags arranged by type. The internal cables I will need (SATA, 4-pin to 6-pin, Y-cable, etc.) I have positioned to the right of the TV.
  6. I have installed and tied up a 27-feet long by 9-feet wide color-coded White photography background above the white table and over a 9-foot by 9-foot window facing West with lots of light most of the day.
  7. I have organized every component and computer/entertainment related item in a 6-foot by 6-foot IKEA 'Hive' Shelf with 25 compartments, arranged by type (RAM, CPUs, HDDs, etc.) I have kept the boxes of the most treasured components on top, some are empty, most are full.

(I'm sorry if the photos appear low-quality.. I used Paint to re-save them in order to lower the size - won't do that again.)

I plan on performing "light" mods to all the rigs - new paint, taking out/changing the insides, immaculate cable-management.. basically perfecting all the rigs.

I just wonder, since it's not one of those "built it from the ground up" mods, does anyone think I should post any of my pics, or just keep it to myself.

OH the stuff in that shelf, you have my mouth watering, can't you donate it to me? :p

By all means post pictures, I love to see how the builds go even if its a ordinary build.

Also, how did you put that image together? I am trying to do something similar with the 200 images I took of the Grand Canyon.

I guess it would depend upon the mods.

I've had this many builds going before, that shelving is nice for times like that. My biggest problem I think though, is the cases taking up space, and then all the original boxes taking up space while you are building. Gotta save all the boxes!

well, it'd be a shame for all that photo equipment to go to waste, so post away!
