to the point... even if you have an anti static strap and ground yourself to your case, is it still not advised that you do a build on carpet.... its literary the only spot in my house to do my rebuild.

That was my thought too....I was told strictly to do it on a hard surface... and I was specifially told NOT to do the cardboard... only hard surface

Don't you have a table or something?

I've built on carpet without any grounding, but its still not recommend especially if you live somewhere with low humidity.

yeah I have a table all set up for the surface, but im talking about under my feet... lol sorry didn't really specify:p and I have my anti static

Oh, that should be fine, I do that all the time.

If your really worried about it wear some shoes or something with rubber on the bottom. :p

You'll be fine as long as pets or, other people don't touch you as you're working. Touching or strapping yourself to the case just equalizes any charge, it doesn't eliminate all charges. It's the difference in charge that causes the problems. I would also recommend putting cardboard or perhaps a cutting board down on the floor first.

I see you have a table to work on. Just attach the anti static strap to the case or PS and you'll be fine.

I recommend turning on your heat, dawn you favorite pair of sweats and socks, shuffle around on the carpet and then go build your rig. I find this yields the best static-induced results. YMMV.

;)

But seriously, you have no other place to work? Cardboard would work, I guess. But there is bound to be a free surface to assemble. You'll only need it for an hour or so...
