CPU :Intel Core 2 Duo E6300

Mobo: ASUS P5B-E Socket T

HD: Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB (have 300gb storage sata's also)

RAM: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

GPU: eVGA geforce 8800 GTS

Case: Antec P180

As for the PSU - I have an Ultra X or X2 or something (forget exact model) at home. 550W (non-modular version). Unsure if this will be sufficient, or if I should invest in another.

Anyone have any comments or PSU suggestions? Trying to keep costs down if possible.

450W enough for the 8800 +OCing?
How many drives do you have? do you have a sound card? If you have 4 HDDs and 2 ODDs plus a sound card, you should get a 550W PSU. I'd go for the OCZ GameXstream 600W for around $105AR.

Some of these PSU's are dangerous to your system, some are just sub-standard,
however NONE can be recommended, for high performance or over-clocked systems.

so thats the list to avoid. im going with a simlar system and iv already picked up antec Neo HE 550. 3X 12V rails, 18 amps each. peak power is more like 620W then 550. i think ill be ok, dont know about going SLI tho....

and umm, if you can spare a few bucks, get a 680i Chipset-ted mainboard. E6300s regularly break 3.5GHz.

I coulda swore jonny did a review on that ULTRA PSU, but he changed his site and now I can't find it (er, uhm, too lazy to find it). Anyhow, I remember reading that its an OK PSU, but not that great. According to the PSU calculator, you'll need 460W (accounting for your drives, your cpu oc, and your vidcard). So basically, you need 34A on the +12V rail(s).

Great, will give it a try with my current PSU. Suppose if I start having problems I can always upgrade.
