im building my first computer and would like some feedback. It will be used for recording tv shows and playing games on a big screen tv.

shoudl i run vista/vista 64/ or xp???

I am still unsure of what graphics card i should get.

I plan on buying at least 1 of the 500gb drives from frys.

I also think i may get the Q6600. Shoud i get better fan for it or will the stoc one be enough?

I would be happy to spend a little more on the motherboard if there was something better. I need mouse keyboard and vga for another room though

Vista
A vidcard with HDCP if you want to watch HD content.
Stock will be enough if you're not OCing.
Thats some expensive ram. Go for something cheaper. 2GB of DDR2-800 should be around $85 right now.

Gaming on a bigscreen (HD) TV means at least an 8800 GTS 640MB, ideally an 8800 GTX. Lesser cards simply can't push 1920x1080 (1080p resolution) at reasonable framerates. It will almost certainly be the most expensive single piece of your machine. If you mean a standard definition, older bigscreen TV, you will be fine with lesser cards. What sort of games are you wanting to play, exactly?

PSU: I'd recommend a Corsair 620HX over the Zalman PSU you have chosen.

RAM: No reason to pay that much, look around a little more.

Motherboard: That Silverstone case will take full sized ATX boards, so you have a lot of options here. I'd recommend a P35 based board over the one you have selected. How do you mean, mouse, keyboard and VGA for another room? Like a KVM type setup?

this motherboard looks good,

I like how it has mouse, keyboard, optical sound (will this support 5.1 or do i need a sound card anyways???) and also the vga, though i guess i could just use an adaptor off the graphics card for that.

It will be doing douple duty in a room about 35ft away, which is why i need mouse and keyboard as usb wont work that far.

yeah talk about expensive graphics card. I will only be playing car racing games on it. Could a loweer series 8000 card work? the 8800gtx seems like it would be about as much as all my other stuff put together.

I dont think im going to get media center since i use sagetv.

As far as gtx`s go the overclocked MSI seems like a good bang for the buck at 480, though i cant get over how much that is. Is it worth it? Does overclocking shorten the life of the card?

my total not including cpu seems to be around 565 not including cpu and graphics card. Or wireless keyboard which i just though of.

I might order the stuff now then get the cpu and graphics card (if you guys cant help me decide by tomarrow morning) after july 22nd. That way I can put everything together and make sure it all fits ect.

Getting an Nvidia card built and marketed by any company but eVGA, XFX, BFG, or OCZ is a bad, bad plan. Lifetime warranties, the ability to OC under warranty (for eVGA at least, not sure about the others), aftermarket cooling under warranty... vs... not.

There is no "Media Center" version of Vista... its all built in functionality. If you'd rather pay for SageTV, then by all means, go ahead. I just like the mymovies addon for Vista, hehe, and wanted to let you know about it so you could check it out.

If you're buying things later (like CPU), buy everything else later, except for RAM, because everything else should go down in price or stay the same. RAM is the most volatile component, price-wise. And right now, RAM prices are LOW. So, I'd suggest getting RAM now, and getting everything else later, unless you see a really good deal on something in particular.
