Build Help Ryzen 7 1700x PC

Hello All,

I'm working on building my first PC. I plan to use my PC for light gaming and mostly development/hosting web servers, automated testing, etc. I'm a programmer and plan to do mostly programming/testing on this PC. I've chosen the Ryzen 7 1700x just because I felt it worked best with my use case.

My budget is $1500 with shipping; I live in the US in Connecticut, the Hartford area

I do not plan to overclock anything.

I'm a little concerned because it looks like the fan I've selected is not compatible with the motherboard. I don't understand fully why, and what good fan would be to choose instead.

Also, aside from the cooling, are there any other gotchas I should be aware of?

The CoolerMaster 212 is a safe go-to for cooling, but the bracket that ships with it isn't compatible with AM4. Another option, top of the [H] price/performance cooler list, is the Reeven Justice. That one also doesn't come with the AM4 bracket in the box, but they will ship you a bracket for free if you email support. Might want to choose a slightly bigger case for growth.

Get the 1700. Save a few bucks and comes with a heatsink.

If he's not going to OC he wants the 1700x. The extra stock speed is worth the $20 more usually. Also if your not going to OC I'd consider a cheaper board than paying the premium for the best OC'ing board out.

Something like the Asrock B350 Pro4 is an EXCELLENT board for the price. Currently sold out bc price is redonk after rebate.

The NVMe drive is nice, but I'd consider dropping down to the 850 EVO. Besides a cpl seconds faster boot you won't notice much difference in apps.

The case is ok, good features but pretty cramped air flow from weak front intake. With the single fan short GTX 1060 that thing needs good airflow in the case so would order a couple good PWM fans.

For the cooler, I'd get something like a Corsair H80i but if you want something cheap but decent and works out of the box these will do:

I did get a bigger case as per the recommendation of TrailRunner. I've also looked into getting a Reeven Justice for cooling. It's a bit overkill, but I figure that this better fan and case can also suit me when I want to create my next build.

I am indeed interested in the 1700x because I do not plan to overclock, and thought it to be the best buy. And thank you Daleon for your tips, your advice on a motherboard and SSD lead me to much cheaper options and saved me a lot of money.

The B350M Pro4 is good, but I'd consider the full size board if for nothing more than it has more fan headers and with the size of your case you will need them.

Will do atleast 2400 and possibly faster. At least one reviewer got 3200 on a B350 board. Ryzen really likes memory speed, 2933/3200 is a nice boost to performance.
