Use: The PC will primarily be used for creating art and assets for video games in Unreal Engine 4, playing games is secondary. A powerful CPU will cut down on render, baking, and compiling time, and it'll be much easier to upgrade the GPU in a few years
Current Build: My PC is really behind the times in CPU power, I got a q9450 at 3.0ghz, and I'm going to base my new build around the i7-5820K which I can get for $300 from Microcenter. I figured this time of year would be a good time to build it, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday coming up in a few weeks.
Goal: Quiet, Small, looks clean, small budget
I'll be reusing GPU and SSD: GTX 760 and Crucial MX100 256GB
CPU: i7-5820K $300
Pretty set in stone unless someone has a really strong case against it
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60? $60
I would love to hit a 4.5ghz overclock and keep the computer quiet, but I don't want to spend too much. All in one liquid coolers look like the best option.
Motherboard: EVGA X99 Micro? $230
There's only 3 options and I wasn't sold on the ASRock options, but maybe I shouldn't shouldn't count them out already
Memory: Crucial 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory? $200
I wish this ram wasn't green, but it's the best priced option I've seen
Video Card: EVGA GTX 760 w/ ACX cooler
Already own, not a blower style GPU so that may affect heat in small cases.
Storage: 2x 1TB drives and 1x Crucial MX100 256GB
I just need a case that can fit 2x 3.5in drives and a SSD. Already own
Power Supply: Undecided
I'd prefer a quiet gold rated option, this computer should only need ~550 watts if I want room to upgrade to a more wattage heavy GPU in the future. I'm kinda interested in the semi-fanless PSUs that turn off the fan at low usage, but those cost a lot more.
Case: Undecided
Needs room for my storage and to mount the cooler. Needs to be small, quiet, and budget friendly. Looking to spend about $100 at most. I would prefer a clean looking case. I do not need a drive bay.
Budget: Max around $900, would prefer closer to $800.
